Steve Cooper has some big calls to make on existing members of his Nottingham Forest squad this summer.

It seems highly unlikely Steve Cooper will endure such a hectic summer of trading for the second consecutive year as he prepares his Nottingham Forest squad for their second season in the Premier League.

Yet the former Swansea City manager still has some big calls to make on some members of his squad that are said to be attracting interest from elsewhere. Such was the level of activity during the last summer transfer window and January’s trading period, Cooper currently has a sizable number of senior professionals among his ranks, despite several departing after their loan spells came to an end. However, that’s not to say they won’t be considering new options.

With the summer transfer window now well underway, we’ve looked at the Forest players that could be heading for the exit door before the new season gets underway.

Josh Bowler

Just under a year has passed since the former Blackpool winger joined Forest from the Championship club. However, the 24-year-old is yet to pull on the famous red shirt after spending an unsuccessful spell on loan at Greek side Olympiakos before returning to Blackpool for the second half of last season.

Bowler is now back with Forest and could be allowed to leave the City Ground on a permanent basis this summer as he enters the final year of his current deal.

Hwang Ul-jo

Another player that spent time on loan at Olympiakos, the 56-times capped South Korea international is yet to make an appearance for Forest after joining them from Bordeaux last summer. After failing to impress in Greece, Hwang spent the second half of the campaign back in his home land, scoring four goals and providing two assists in 17 appearances for FC Seoul.

Much like Bowler, neither loan spell produced anything spell and there is a feeling he could depart the club this summer.

Jonathan Panzo

The former Chelsea academy defender joined Forest from French club Dijon just under 18 months ago after impressing for the Ligue 1 side.

After making just one appearance for Forest in the final month of their successful push for promotion into the Premier League, the 22-year-old enjoyed a fruitful loan spell at Coventry City, making 32 appearances in all competitions for the Sky Blues as they reached the play-off final before a defeat to Luton Town ended hopes of a top tier return.

However, Panzo’s form attracted interest from several clubs and there have been reports Scottish giants Rangers have made an unsuccessful bid to take him to Ibrox in a permanent deal. The two clubs are said to be involved in discussions and an agreement could be reached over the coming days and weeks.

Emmanuel Dennis

After joining Forest in a £20m move from Watford last summer, Dennis has failed to make a serious impact at the City Ground, scoring just two goals and providing just three assists in 27 appearances in all competitions.

Significantly, just nine of those appearances came as part of Steve Cooper’s starting eleven as the Nigerian international struggled to impress the Forest boss. Despite the challenging season he endured, Dennis is arguably one of the few Forest players that could command a sizable transfer fee and The Athletic have reported he is ‘likely’ to leave the City Ground this summer - although suggestions of a move to the Saudi Arabia Pro League have been dismissed.

Steve Cook

The vastly experienced defender made just 14 appearances in all competitions last season, with his last Premier League appearance coming in a 2-2 home draw against Brentford in November.

Although his experience will have been invaluable in the dressing room, Cook’s on-field impact was limited and he could be allowed to leave the club this summer as he enters the final 12 months of the two-year deal he agreed last summer.

Gustavo Scarpa

The once-capped Brazil international only joined Forest in January but there has been speculation his time at the club could come to a close this summer.

Scarpa made ten appearances in all competitions before a knee injury curtailed his involved in Forest’s attempts to preserve their Premier League status. Recent reports have suggested Turkish club Besiktas are showing an interest in the attacking midfielder, despite Scarpa claiming he is enjoying his time in the Premier League and revealing how much he has dreamt of playing in England.
