Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Chelsea counterpart Mauricio Pochettino remained coy over their attempts to sign Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Speaking after their sides battled their way to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, both managers gave little away over their interest in the Ecuador international. Reds boss Klopp insisted there was ‘no news’ over his bid to make Caicedo part of his squad but did admit he was looking for ‘something like that’ as the transfer window enters its final fortnight.

He told Sky Sports: “These specific players, you can see in the moment the market is obviously crazy. It’s no secret that we are looking for something like that.”

Chelsea counterpart Pochettino was equally noncommittal, saying: “No, at the moment we don’t know anything. We are working so hard, but I think the moment something happens, we will inform you – through the club.”

The 3AM Verdict: “Although nothing should surprise you in the Premier League, it would be something of a surprise to see Caicedo remain with Brighton beyond the end of the summer transfer window. It is understandable why the Seagulls felt compelled to accept an eye-watering offer from Liverpool and a similar offer from Chelsea, the club who’ve been after him all summer, could well tip a deal over the line.”

Another Seagulls star attracting interest as Spurs eye Kane replacement

Tottenham Hotspur have wasted little time in making a move for a replacement for Harry Kane - according to reports.

The England captain officially completed a big money move to German giants Bayern Munich on Saturday morning before making his debut as a substitute in a German Super Cup defeat against RB Leipzig just hours later.

His departure left new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou to field Brazil star Richarlison as his lead striker on Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Brentford - but the former Celtic manager is said to be keen on another Premier League frontman as he looks to replace Kane. TEAMtalk have reported Spurs have ‘made an enquiry’ for Brighton’s highly-rated striker Evan Ferguson - although they are likely to be rebuffed with the Seagulls showing ‘little appetite’ to lose the talented, £100m-rated Republic of Ireland international.

The 3AM verdict: “This one feels like an almost impossible deal for Spurs to pull of before the end of the transfer window. Brighton are in no need to sell a player that looks on his way to becoming a leading striker in the Premier League and they have time on their side. On top of that, everyone now knows Spurs have the Harry Kane millions to burn - they’ll be charged a mighty premium for any striker they go for."

Wolves deal blow to Newcastle United and Spurs

Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed key defender Max Kilman has committed his future to the club after they rebuffed ‘several offers’ for their newly-appointed captain.

The 26-year-old has become a key figure at Molineux since he joined the club from non-league side Maidenhead United in the summer of 2018. After initially featuring in Wolves academy sides, he broke into the senior setup under Nuno Espirito Santo in 2019 and has gone on to make over a century of appearances for the club.

Despite speculation linking Kilman with a move to Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Serie A champions Napoli, the centre-back has opted to remain at Molineux and will look to play his part in a much-improved season under new manager Gary O’Neil.

Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs explained why the defender had become ‘the soul of the team’ and revealed the club had rejected a number of approaches before he signed his new deal.

He told the club website: “This is what Max deserves. We’ve been talking to Max since the end of last season and his evolution, not just through the club, but through his role in the first-team, has built a strong foundation for him. There was lots of interest in Max, we had several offers, but we haven’t shifted in wanting him to stay. We believe he’s the soul of the team, having been here for a long time now, so he was never a player we considered selling.”

The 3AM Verdict: “This will be a major boost to Gary O’Neil as he prepares for his first match in charge of Wolves. Losing Kilman, no matter what fee was received, would have left a sizeable hole in his defence. Now the challenge is to add to his squad and help the club avoid what some suspect will be a relegation battle this season.”
