The latest England team news, injury updates and predicted line-up ahead of Euro 2024 semi-final against the Netherlands.

The business end of Euro 2024 has finally arrived and despite struggling to find the levels expected of them, England remain in with a good chance of winning their first men’s senior tournament since 1966.

After stumbling through a group stage containing Slovenia, Serbia and Denmark and surviving a major scare in their round-of-16 clash with Slovakia thanks to a moment of magic from Jude Bellingham, England had high hopes of putting in a much improved display in Saturday’s quarter-final meeting with Switzerland. It must be said, there were aspects of the Three Lions’ performance that showed some signs of going up a level, but they still had to battle from a goal down as Bukayo Saka cancelled out a Breel Embolo strike before Gareth Southgate’s side came through a flawless penalty shoot-out to claim a third major tournament semi-final under the former Middlesbrough manager.

Standing in their way is a Netherlands side that have endured something a mixed tournament. Ronald Koeman’s men were one of the best third placed sides in the group stage and they went on to secure their semi-final place with a round-of-16 win over Romania before seeing off an impressive Turkey side in Saturday’s quarter-final meeting in Berlin. There are some big calls for both managers to make ahead of Wednesday’s last-four clash at Borussia Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park as they look to move within 90 minutes of what would be a historic tournament win.

England team news

There was a major boost for Gareth Southgate on Saturday as left-back Luke Shaw finally got his first minutes of the tournament. The Manchester United star felt like a questionable selection when Southgate named his final 26-man squad after he endured an injury-hit season with the Red Devils, but he has slowly made his way back towards fitness and has shown no adverse effects after replacing club team-mate Kobbie Mainoo with 12 minutes remaining of normal time in the quarter-final game against Switzerland. That will leave Southgate with a big call to make over Shaw - but it seems likely he will retain faith in Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier.

There is also good news at the heart of Southgate’s defence as Marc Guehi returns from a one-match ban and the Crystal Palace star could be handed a recall at the expense of Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa. Cole Palmer and Ivan Toney will also be pushing for starts after impressing as substitutes in England’s last two games.

England predicted XI

Pickford; Walker, Stones, Guehi; Saka, Mainoo, Rice, Trippier; Bellingham, Foden; Kane.

Netherlands team news

There seems to be just one call to make for Ronald Koeman after his squad came through their win against Turkey unscathed. Although he did not commit either way, the former Everton manager does have an option to hand a start to former Manchester United loan signing Wout Weghorst after he made an impact as a substitute in a number of games at the tournament. However, Koeman could stick with Memphis Depay and Cody Gakpo after they provided a combined six goal involvements (goals and assists) in five games so far.

Verbruggen; Dumfries, De Vrij, Van Dijk, Ake; Schouten, Reijnders; Malen, Simons, Gakpo; Depay.
