The latest updates on Arsenal’s transfer situation amid links to different players

Arsenal are chasing down Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table. They have fallen short of Manchester City over recent years and are hoping that this is their time to get their hands on the trophy.

Mikel Arteta’s side threw away a 2-0 lead at home to Aston Villa last time out though to draw 2-2. The Gunners need to find some more consistency as they look to keep up the pace with Arne Slot’s men.

Arsenal have the chance to bring in some new players before the end of the transfer window on 3rd February. They also have the opportunity to let some individuals head out the exit door to help free up space and funds in their ranks.

The London outfit have been linked with a few different names over recent times. Some speculation appears to have legs, whilst others are likely to just be paper talk.

Arsenal eye Benjamin Sesko

According to The Athletic, Arsenal are ‘open’ to bolstering their attacking ranks and RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko is a ‘long-term’ target. The report adds that is would be an expensive deal to do this month.

Sesko, who is 21-years-old, could be seen by Arteta as someone to boost his striking options. He has a lot of potential and would be a useful long-term addition. The Slovenia international has been on the books at Leipzig since joining the Bundesliga club in 2023. He has since scored 31 goals in 67 games in all competitions for them to date, 13 of which have come in this campaign.

Sesko was snapped up as a youngster by RB Salzburg and was loaned out to FC Liefering to get some experience under his belt initially. He then broke into the first-team of the Austrian Bundesliga team and found the net on 29 occasions in 79 outings before his current club swooped in for his signature. Leipzig could now face a battle to keep hold of him amid attention from elsewhere. He is valued at £42million on Transfermarkt.

Former Arsenal player Paul Merson has urged the Gunners to sign a new forward. The pundit has said, as per Sky Sports: “This reminds me of a time during the Arsene Wenger era. Every Arsenal player, pundit and fan knew they needed a centre-half and they didn't go out and get one. I hope Mikel Arteta isn't thinking like that. Everyone knows they need a forward. They need to freshen it up, they don't need to play straight away, but they need that extra body.”

Arsenal ‘agree deal’ for Martin Zubimendi

Arsenal have agreed a deal to land Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, according to Football Insider. He is set to link up with the Gunners to add more competition and depth to their midfield ranks.

Zubimendi, who is 25-years-old, has been on the books of Sociedad for his whole career to date but is now poised for a change of scene for the first time. He helped Spain win Euro 2024 last year in Germany.

If the move gets over the line, he will give Arteta something different to pick from in the middle of the park. He has never played for another club and as with any player from abroad, it may take him a while to adapt to life in a new country.
