The latest Aston Villa injury news and possible return dates.

It has been a largely positive start to the new Premier League season for Aston Villa as Unai Emery’s men look to build on a wonderful campaign that brought a surprise top four finish and Champions League qualification.

An opening day win at West Ham United kicked off an exciting season in fine style, and although Villa suffered a home defeat against Arsenal, they bounced back in determined fashion by taking three points from their short trip to Leicester City. That ensured Emery’s men were sat within touching distance of the top four as the league action gives way to the first international break of the season.

When Villa return to action in just under a fortnight, they will host struggling Everton before getting their Champions League adventure underway with an away trip to Swiss club Young Boys. Emery will hope for some positive news on the injury front when his players return - but what are the possible return dates of those Villa stars currently recovering from injury blows?

Boubacar Kamara

The French star underwent surgery on an anterior cruciate ligament injury in February and has been the subject of a number of positive updates from Unai Emery in recent weeks. Speaking ahead of Saturday’s 2-1 win at Leicester City revealed the former Marseille man was ‘progressing a lot’ and could return to training ‘in a few weeks’, meaning a return to competitive action in late October is not out of the question.

Potential return date: Late-October

Tyrone Mings

It has been a painstaking recovery for the England defender after he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury at Newcastle on the first day of last season. Emery admitted Mings was ‘close to starting something with the team’ last week and is ‘feeling very good’. A mid-October return has been discussed.

Potential return date: Mid-October

Diego Carlos

The former Sevilla centre-back remained at Villa despite speculation linking him with a move elsewhere in the week before the summer transfer window came to a close. The Brazilian missed Saturday’s win at Leicester City with an unspecified injury and is reportedly set to return at the end of the month.

Potential return date: Late-September

Matty Cash

The Poland international suffered a hamstring injury within the opening 20 minutes of the home defeat against Arsenal but is now set to return to action after the international break.

Jaden Philogene

The winger has seen just 16 minutes of action since returning to Villa Park from Hull City during the summer after making a substitute appearance in the opening day win at West Ham United. However, after picking up a knock in training, Philogene missed Saturday’s 2-1 win at Leicester City and is scheduled to return after the international break.

Potential return date: Mid-September

Leon Bailey

A thigh injury hobbled out of Saturday’s win at Leicester after suffering a thigh injury inside the first 20 minutes. Although Emery confirmed Philogene should return immediately after the international break, the Villa boss was not so forthcoming with information on Bailey’s possible return. He said: “It is a hamstring (for Philogene). I don't know exactly how bad his injury is. Hopefully, when we come back again (after the break), Jaden could be available again to play, Leon maybe not.'

Potential return date: No return date as yet
