The transfer window closes for business on Monday evening

Clubs up and down the country have until the transfer deadline to bring in some final additions. It is expected to be a busy end to the window for Aston Villa.

Unai Emery’s side are poised to bring in Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford in a surprise initial loan deal. The 27-year-old has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford recently under Ruben Amorim.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has posted on X: “Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa, here we go! Agreement in place on loan deal with over 70% salary covered by Villa. Buy option clause worth £40m also included in contract with potential three year and half deal to follow. Medical booked today.”

Rashford, who is an England international, has made 60 caps for the Three Lions to date. He has made 426 appearances for Manchester United to date and has scored 138 goals.

He said earlier this winter that he was ready for a new challenge: "If I know that a situation is already bad I'm not going to make it worse. I've seen how other players have left in the past and I don't want to be that person. When I leave I'll make a statement and it will be from me.

"When I leave it's going to be 'no hard feelings'. You're not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That's me as a person. For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps."

Aston Villa close in on Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio

Rashford isn’t the only proposed incoming at Villa Park. They are also poised to bring in PSG attacking Marco Asensio on a six-month loan, as per BirminghamWorld. The 29-year-old will give Emery something different going forward.

The Spain international has been playing his football in France since 2023 and is now set for a fresh start in England. He has also been at Mallorca and Real Madrid in the past and fired 61 goals in 262 outings for the latter.

Manchester United eye Leon Bailey and Mathys Tel

Manchester United may need to delve into the market to bring in a replacement for Rashford. As per The Athletic, they are admirers of Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey and Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel.

Bailey, 27, could be seen by the Red Devils as someone who would be capable of fitting into Ruben Amorim’s style of play. The Jamaica international has been a key player for his current club over recent times and it would be a surprise to see him leave.

The attacker joined Villa back in 2021 after catching the eye at both Genk and Bayer Leverkusen in his early career. He has since fired 21 goals in 135 outings.

As for Tel, the 19-year-old has a bright future in the game and he would be a good long-term option for United. He was snapped up by Bayern in 2022 from Rennes and has made 83 outings for the Bundesliga giants, finding the net on 16 occasions.
