Chelsea are currently sat in 4th place in the Premier League after their win over Wolves. They are in the top four along with Liverpool, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.

The London outfit have the chance to bring in some new players over the next couple of weeks before the end of the January transfer window. They also have the opportunity to let some individuals head out the exit door if required.

Chelsea defensive injuries

Levi Colwill has emerged as a doubt for Chelsea after missing out of the squad against Wolves. It remains to be seen at this stage how severe the defender’s injury is and he will be assessed over the coming days.

Wesley Fofana may well be out for the rest of this campaign for the Blues which isn’t ideal. Speaking earlier this month, Maresca said: “We speak the same language in terms of how we communicate between each other in English and in French, so it has been quite clear.

“I just told you what the medical staff said to me, that it’s around 12-16 weeks. Wes is thinking that he can recover earlier than that. We are all happy if Wes is back as soon as possible. So, there’s no problem.”

Benoit Badiashile faces another month on the sidelines with a thigh problem. He is expected to be back in February.

Chelsea injury woes further up the pitch

Romeo Lavia has had a torrid time on the injury front since joining Chelsea from Southampton. He didn’t play against Wolves due to muscle fatigue and the medical department are being careful with him. Maresca said: “The Romeo [injury] is more important than the Enzo one. We don’t know yet how long they are going to be out. Hopefully not too long.

“It’s muscle fatigue or muscle problems. Both against Bournemouth. The Romeo one was the yellow card, if you remember, and Enzo against Bournemouth in the 92nd or 93rd minute.”

As for Enzo Fernandez, he also has muscle fatigue. The Blues will need to make checks on him over the coming days and decide whether to throw him back in against Manchester City this weekend.

Carney Chukwuemeka is facing an uncertain future in London and has been linked with an exit before the deadline on 3rd February. He has suffering with illness recently and is another player who they will be monitoring to see how he is doing.

Omari Kellyman hasn’t played for the Under-21’s since September due to a hamstring problem. It has been a frustrating past few months for the youngster and it has halted his development. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder, who joined from Aston Villa, is yet to make a first-team appearance.
