The Premier League is back, and its return couldn’t have come quick enough after an early taster.
The September international break must be the worst one of all, given we see the return of club football after a long summer only to see it take a two-week break just three or four weeks into the new season. Thankfully, the break is now over and done with, at least for another month, and we can now get a better idea of where teams are headed, with the Premier League table likely to take some shape over the coming weeks.
In the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest Premier League transfer rumours.
Manchester United are said to be interested in rivalling Chelsea for the signing of Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi.
According to the Daily Mail, the Red Devils are keeping an eye on the England star as they look to move on from Harry Maguire at some point in the near future. Though, the catch is that Palace are said to be demanding £60million for Guehi, likely putting the defender out of reach for United in the short-term.
The Red Devils are struggling with Financial Fair Play issues, and they are going to need to agree more sales before they can splash such money on a new defender.
The 3AM Verdict:United are not in a position to spend £60million on a defender, at least not without a takeover, so Palace could price them out of a move in the winter, and indeed in January. Maguire is not going to go for more than £30million, while they could yet end up taking huge hits on the likes of Antony and Jadon Sancho. This one just doesn’t seem likely.
Bayern Munich are said to be preparing to circle back for Chelsea star Trevoh Chalobah in January.
According to the Daily Mail, Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel is keen to reunite with Chalobah, and after failing with a deadline day bid, he plans on returning with a fresh bid in January. Chelsea also received a £25million bid from Nottingham Forest, but they moved to keep the defender amid a serious injury for Wesley Fofana during the summer.
Bayern may well have an opportunity to sign Chalobah, who still seems unlikely to play regularly this season.
The 3AM Verdict: Chalobah is not likely to feature regularly for Chelsea this summer, and they may well end up cashing in during January as they look to balance the books a little. Though, given the Fofana injury and the lack of Premier League experience behind some of their new defensive signings, it was no surprise that the Blues were a little selfish in keeping hold of Chalobah for extra security, but the defender is currently struggling with a hamstring injury, and he may find it difficult to get back into Pochettino’s plans. A January move does look likely.
Odegaard contract latest
Mikel Arteta says he is optimistic about Martin Odegaard signing a new contract.
The Gunners captain has started the season in fine form, but he could do with a new contract, currently under terms until 2025, though Arsenal also have the option of extending by a year.
“He’s our captain, he’s a massive player for us,” Arteta responded when quizzed about a possible new deal.
“(He is a) Really important player for now and the future. We are extremely happy to have him and we want to keep him here for a long time. I’m always optimistic. We’re really close with him and his agent. Whenever that’s confirmed we will announce it.”
The 3AM Verdict: Arsenal need to get this deal tied up. Odegaard doesn’t seem too bothered, but good players should be rewarded. Odegaard signed on the cheap, and he has shown he is deserving of a better contract, becoming the captain and one of Arsenal’s most consistent performers since joining the club. It’s time for Arsenal to lock him into a new deal and to make sure the Norwegian doesn’t look elsewhere.
