Esse, Doucoure and Riad: Crystal Palace injury news and return dates ahead of Newcastle United clash

Crystal Palace are positioned in 12th place in the Premier League table. They have 43 points on the board from their 31 outings and have seven fixtures left to play before the end of the season. Oliver Glasner has done an impressive job since taking over the South London outfit.
The Eagles were beaten 5-2 away at Manchester City last time out. Eberechi Eze and Chris Richards scored their goals at the Etihad Stadium. They stormed into a 2-0 lead before Pep Guardiola’s men fought back to secure all three points.

Chadi Riad - out. Crystal Palace swooped to land the defender in June last year and handed him a five-year deal. However, it has been a frustrating first campaign on the injury front for the former Real Betis man. He ruptured his ACL and Glasner said in late January: “Chadi has ruptured his ACL, so we have lost [him] for the rest of the season and even longer. There was no impact, and Chadi as well, it was just a normal situation in training ' so it's really frustrating.” Expected return date: 01/01/2026.
Marc Guehi - suspended. He was sent off in the Eagles’ last home game against rivals Brighton and Hove Albion. The defender has one more game to serve of his suspension after sitting out against Manchester City. His contract expires in 2026 and it remains to be seen whether he will be staying this summer. Expected return date: 19/04/2025.
Matt Turner - should be back. The goalkeeper missed out last time out due to illness. He provides competition for the goalkeeping department. Glasner has said: “Romain Esse and Matt Turner are both feeling unwell, so they stay at home for this one. But they both should be available for the Newcastle game next Wednesday.” Expected return date: 16/04/2025.
Crystal Palace attacking issues
Romain Esse - should be back. As Glasner alluded to, Esse was ill against Manchester City along with Turner. Crystal Palace snapped him up in the January window from Millwall in the Championship. When available, he gives them something different to pick from going forward and he has a bright future ahead of him in the game. Expected return date: 16/04/2025.

Hide AdEddie Nketiah - suspended. The striker was sent off as well as Guehi against Brighton. He is still banned for another match and will have to watch from the stands. The attacker has scored five goals in all competitions this term in 28 matches following his transfer last year from Arsenal. Expected return date: 19/04/2025.
Cheick Doucoure - out. He is out for the rest of the campaign with a knee injury which is a blow. The midfielder will be itching to return for pre-season and it will be good news when he is ready to play again as he has been missed. Glasner said earlier this year: “After further assessments, Cheicky needs surgery on his knee, so we have lost [him] for the rest of the season. We hope [he] will return for pre-season.” Expected return date: 01/06/2025.
