Crystal Palace and Newcastle United both have the chance to snap up some signings this summer

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has done an impressive job since taking over at Selhurst Park. The Eagles have made steady progress under the guidance of the former Eintracht Frankfurt man. They have an FA Cup final to look forward to later this month at Wembley against Manchester City after they beat Aston Villa in the semi-finals.

As for Newcastle United, they are hoping to be in the Champions League again next season. They fell short last year but remain in the mix for a top five finish right now. The Toon Army have three fixtures left to play as they look to get over the line.

Crystal Palace eye Newcastle United man Joe Willock

Crystal Palace have been linked with a move for Newcastle United midfielder Joe Willock this summer, as per the Chronicle. The 25-year-old is facing an uncertain long-term future in the North East and may move on in the next window for a new challenge. He is under contract with his current club until June 2027 but it remains to be seen at this stage whether he will see that out.

Willock, who is a former England youth international, could be seen by the Eagles as someone to bolster their ranks. The London-born man has quality and has proved himself at the top level in the past. However, his time with the Toon Army has turned stale and a change of scene would do him good.

The London-born man rose up through the academy ranks at Arsenal and was a regular at various different youth levels. He then made his first-team debut back in 2017 and went on to play 78 matches for the Gunners in all competitions as a youngster, finding the net on 11 occasions. Newcastle were then given the green light to bring him in on loan back in 2020.

Willock’s switch has since been made permanent and he has since fired 10 goals in 127 outings. He hasn’t managed to find the net in the league in this campaign though in 30 outings. His output hasn’t been strong enough and that means he might be sold on over the coming months.

A return home to London could help him recapture his form though and Crystal Palace could be the ideal next home. He would get more game time with the Eagles under Glasner. They would also provide him with a platform to show what he can do again and prove a point. Willock would likely thrive in a system such as Glasner’s and could prove to be an inspired bit of business.

Newcastle United target Marc Guehi at Crystal Palace which could create swap deal

Willock could give Newcastle the upper hand in pursuit of Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi. They have been long-term admirers of the England international and may try and swoop for him again this year. Eddie Howe’s men saw a few different offers rejected just over 12 months ago, as per Sky Sports.

Giving the Eagles a player in return like Willock could make it easier to tempt them into a sale. It means they wouldn’t be left too short changed and can boost their ranks in the process. It seems inevitable that Guehi will move on soon for the next step of his career, so Palace may as well maximise his exit as much as they can.

His deal runs out in June 2026 and he is yet to put pen-to-paper on an extension. That means he is due to become a free agent next year as things stand. Losing him for nothing would be a huge blow and that is something that Crystal Palace are unlikely to let happen.

If they can pick up a hefty fee from Newcastle and get Willock as part of a swap deal plus cash, that is an arrangement that likely suits both parties. It is worth noting, however, that the Magpies may need to get into Europe again first though if they are to secure his services. Champions League football in general would significantly boost their hopes of bringing in their top targets.

The 24-year-old was snapped up by the Eagles in 2021 and their decision to sign him has turned out to be a masterstroke. Prior to his move, he was on the books at Chelsea but didn’t get many minutes in their starting XI. Instead, he was shipped out on loan twice to Swansea City in the Championship to get some experience under his belt and boost his development. Guehi could be exactly what Newcastle need to take them to the next level, and while Palace will be disappointed to see the England star go, getting a key transfer target and a tasty chunk of cash would go a long way to salving those wounds.
