Everton and Leeds United will both be competing in the Premier League next season

These are exciting times for Everton football club. They have managed to secure their Premier League status with ease in the end this season under the guidance of David Moyes. The Toffees are also preparing to move into their brand spanking new stadium this summer and have a big few months ahead of them in what should be one of their most active summer transfer windows in years.

As for Leeds United, they sealed the Championship title ahead of Burnley last weekend. They beat Plymouth Argyle 2-1 at Home Park on the final day. The Whites are back in the top flight now and will be eager to stamp their mark in the next campaign under Daniel Farke. They’ll be hoping to buck the recent trend of promoted sides getting dumped straight back down into the Championship, and are also expected to have a highly active summer of wheeling and dealing in aid of cementing their place in the Premier League once again.

Everton eye move for Leeds United left-back Junior Firpo

Everton could do with bringing in some new players this summer. They will have a lot of vacancies to fill in their squad due to the number of individuals they have out of contract next month. The likes of stalwarts Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Michael Keane and Seamus Coleman are among others those set to leave the club before they step into their bold new era.

The Toffees will be going through a transitional period and need to ensure that they get their recruitment spot on. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see them go down a more youthful approach in the market. However, they must ensure that they get some experience through the door as well.

Step forward Junior Firpo who, at 28, is coming into his prime years and has played in the Premier League before. His deal at Leeds United expires in late June and he is yet to put pen-to-paper on an extension, despite their recent promotion. That means he is due to become a free agent as things stand and is able to weigh up his options in the game.

According to TBR Football, Everton are interested in a move for the Dominican Republic international. They will face competition from league rivals Crystal Palace and West Ham in pursuit of his signature. European teams such as Real Betis, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have also been mentioned as suitors so he appears to be a wanted man.

Firpo could be ideal for the Merseyside outfit as they wouldn’t have to fork out a transfer fee to get him. That would help free up funds to pave the way for reinforcements in other positions. He would boost their defensive department and add more competition and depth to their ranks.

He broke into Real Betis’ first-team as a youngster in La Liga before emerging on the radar of Barcelona. The defender was lured to the Nou Camp in 2019 and spent two years with the Spanish giants before switching to England. Leeds snapped him up in 2021 and he has since made 122 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with six goals.

Could Everton use Beto in Leeds United swap deal?

It remains to be seen whether Firpo will stay put at Leeds or move on. He doesn’t appear to be short of options if he were to leave West Yorkshire. The Whites would need to find a replacement if he did head out the exit door and that won’t be easy.

He has been a massive player for them over recent times, especially this term, and he has become a popular figure among the Elland Road fanbase. However, after two years in the Football League, he may now feel a change of scene is needed. Whether that be with another English outfit or abroad is yet to be seen at this stage.

If he did stay but Everton still wanted him, they could try and tempt Farke with Beto as part of a swap deal. The Whites will need to bolster their attacking ranks in the near future. They need more firepower up front to help deal with the step up a division.

The forward is someone who is effective in the air, has a high work rate and would suit Farke’s style of play. Leeds can’t just rely on the likes of Joel Piroe, Patrick Bamford and Mateo Joseph and will need more of a cutting edge in attack. They have plenty of time over the coming weeks and months to source different players.

Beto has played 31 games so far this season for the Toffees and has found the net on nine occasions, seven of which have come in the league. He joined his current club back in 2023 and it initially took him a while to get going. The attacker has found his shooting boots now though and has proved he can score goals at the top level.

He will take inspiration from Jean Philippe-Mateta’s rise at Crystal Palace. The Frenchman also struggled for form during his early period when he first joined the Eagles. He has since become one of their most prized assets after they stuck by him. Beto could do the same and would be a shrewd addition by Leeds if they considered a punt.
