Everton’s summer transfer window has been largely dominated by departures as uncertainty over the club’s ownership continues to dominate the headlines.
Academy graduate Lewis Dobbin and defender Ben Godfrey have been sold to Aston Villa and Everton respectively at a combined income of around £15m but the biggest outgoing deal has seen midfielder Amadou Onana join Dobbin at Villa Park. That provided Everton’s coffers with a boost to the tune of £50m and there is now a hope that further new faces will arrive to increase Sean Dyche’s options across the pitch.

But what other business could the Toffees conduct? We fire up Football Manager 2024 to see how the world’s most popular management simulation predicts the remainder of the summer transfer window could play out for Dyche and his squad.
Goalkeepers
There is no question England star Jordan Pickford will head into the new season as Dyche’s first-choice goalkeeper in the real world and the virtual one too. But there is added competition in the latter after the Toffees landed Newcastle United stopper Martin Dubravka in a £2m deal. The experienced goalkeeper has been brought in to put pressure on Pickford and provided added cover alongside Joao Virginia.

Defenders

There were no departures from the defensive ranks other than Ben Godfrey’s exit to Atalanta, which we entered into the game with the use of the editor. However, there were two additions to Dyche’s options at the back after the Toffees boss secured a £12m deal for Sunderland’s former Arsenal centre-back Dan Ballard and handed over £3m to Serie A club Udinese to secure the services of Cameroon left-back Enzo Ebosse.

Midfielders
There was a solitary addition to the midfield options as former Rangers star Joe Aribo moved to Goodison Park after Everton agreed a £6.25m deal with Premier League newcomers Southampton. He joins former Aston Villa youngster Tim Iroegbunam as the newcomers to the Toffees engine room ahead of the new season.

Forwards

It was all change at the top end of the pitch as Dyche conducted something of an overhaul of his options in attacking areas. Firstly, the departures swelled the Toffees coffers to the tune of £61m as Neal Maupay joined Bournemouth, Youssef Chermiti returned to Portugal with Braga and Dominic Calvert-Lewin joined Saudi Arabia Pro League club Al-Ittihad. However, those funds were put to good use as Girona winger Viktor Tsygankov and Granada striker Matias Arezo moved to Merseyside with a combined outlay of £39m head to the La Liga clubs.
