The dazzling £12m attacker Leeds United could sign in January without spending a penny

Leeds United are looking to establish themselves in the Premier League over the next couple of years under Daniel Farke

Leeds United were promoted from the Championship last season after winning the league title. They went up along with Burnley and Sunderland. The Whites spent two years in the second tier before Daniel Farke managed to get them out of the Football League.

The West Yorkshire outfit have since adapted pretty well to life back in the Premier League. They had a busy summer on the recruitment front and brought in a whole host of new faces to bolster their ranks. The Whites are currently sat in 11th place in the table with eight points on the board from six fixtures.

Leeds United should rekindle Harry Wilson interest

Leeds were keen on signing Fulham winger Harry Wilson in the last window. The Whites wanted to lure the attacker back up north but weren’t able to get a deal over the line in the end. He stayed put at Craven Cottage beyond the deadline earlier this month but his long-term future in London remains up in the air.

Wilson, 28, is out of contract at the end of the campaign and is due to become a free agent in June 2026 as things stand. He is yet to put pen-to-paper on an extension and is set to become available as things stand. His current club risk losing him for nothing and it remains to be seen whether he will sign a new deal.

Therefore, Leeds may well get their opportunity to strike this winter. Given that both Leeds and Fulham play in the Premier League, a deal can’t go through until the summer, but the groundwork could certainly be laid towards Wilson making the switch upon his contract’s expiry in the summer.

The Wales international, who has 64 caps to his name, has been on the books of Fulham since joining them in 2021. He initially linked up with them on loan before his move was later made permanent for £12million.

Wilson helped them gain promotion in his first year under the guidance of Marco Silva. He has made 153 appearances in all competitions to date and has scored 26 goals, six of which came last term. However, it is yet to be known whether he will be sticking around beyond the end of his contract.

Why Harry Wilson would suit Leeds United

Wilson would give Leeds more competition and depth at the top end of the pitch. He would offer them something different to what they have already. He likes to cut in on his left foot from the right and has a lot of experience under his belt now.

The Wrexham-born man rose up through the academy ranks at Liverpool and was a regular for the Reds at various different youth levels. He went on to play twice for the senior team at Anfield. The forward was also loaned out to the likes of Crewe Alexandra, Hull City, Derby County, AFC Bournemouth and Cardiff City to boost his development.

Wilson has made Fulham his home over recent years and is a useful player for them to call upon. Leeds would present him with a new challenge though and an opportunity to show what he can do in a different environment. A future move to the Whites would be an exciting one for him and he is the sort of player who would get the fans at Elland Road off their seats.

Silva heaped praise on Wilson after he scored a brace against Brentford earlier this year and said: “He’s an important player and a very good player for us. Of course the feeling for him against Brentford is fantastic and he’s probably thinking right now, ‘why don’t I play against Brentford every week?’ We knew we could do it today in a special game and in a derby. Their frontline has nearly 50 goals in the Premier League. We knew we had to be strong to be in control of the situation.”
