Will Leeds United sign Jamie Vardy?

Leeds have shown an interest in Jamie Vardy, according to Fichajes. The striker is a free agent following his exit from Leicester City and he will be weighing up his options in the game. Other teams such as Valencia, Villarreal, Charlotte and New York Red Bulls have also been mentioned as potential suitors.

Vardy, 38, is weighing up his next move in the game and has a big decision to make on where he wants to go next. The Whites could see him as someone who would boost their attacking ranks. If they signed him, he would provide more competition and depth to their options up top and inject some valuable experience into their dressing room.

The veteran is a proven goal scorer and has fired 200 goals in 500 games for Leicester. The Foxes landed him back in 2012 from Fleetwood Town after he caught their eye in non-league. He has since gone on to win the league title and the FA Cup during his time at the King Power Stadium.

Signing Vardy would be a big risk for Leeds though at his age and although they wouldn’t have to pay a fee for him, his best days are probably behind him now and they need a younger option in that area. The Whites will have money to spend following their promotion and there are better alternatives out there. They will be working hard behind the scenes to sound out targets.

Vardy isn’t the answer though and it would be a surprise to see him go to Elland Road anyway. It seems a more likely scenario that he will head abroad now for the final couple of years of his career. A lot of MLS teams have been mentioned and he may fancy his chances playing against stars in that league like Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets, among others.

Which other strikers could Leeds United target this summer?

Sky Sports have claimed that Leeds are admirers of Everton striker Beto. He would be a more sensible acquisition over Vardy. It initially took the former Udinese man time to adapt to life in England but David Moyes has been able to get the best out of him over recent times.

Beto, 27, is 11 years younger than Vardy and his pace and power can cause problems to opposition defenders. He has potential to develop further and will be in confident mood. The forward found the net on eight occasions in the league in this past term.

Hamburg hotshot Davie Selke is another who has been linked with Leeds. His current club could face a real battle to keep hold of him. He is a man in-demand after firing 22 goals to help them gain promotion back to the Bundesliga.

It is yet to be known where he will be playing his football next season though. The 30-year-old is at the top of his game right now and would be a shrewd pick up by the Whites if they were able to tempt him to leave Germany. He has had spells in the past with the likes of Werder Bremen, RB Leipzig, Hertha Berlin and Koln.
