Liverpool have enjoyed a successful first season under the guidance of Arne Slot

Liverpool will be looking to forward to next season after managing to tie Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk to new deals at Anfield. It remains to be seen at this stage whether Trent Alexander-Arnold will follow suit. Nevertheless, the Reds will still be in a strong position as they look to compete for the title again.

Arne Slot’s side are on the brink of winning the trophy after Arsenal’s draw with Crystal Palace on Wednesday night. They are back in action this weekend against Tottenham Hotspur at home. The Merseyside giants then lock horns with Chelsea away on 4th May.

Liverpool eye Murillo swoop

Liverpool have the chance to bolster their squad this summer. They could look to bring in some new faces to freshen up their ranks. The Reds are being linked with a move for Nottingham Forest defender Murillo in the upcoming window, as per a report by CaughtOffside, with rivals Arsenal also mentioned as potential suitors.

It has been well documented that Slot is an admirer of AFC Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen. However, in this latest update by the Daily Mail, Chelsea appear to be in the driving seat in that particular pursuit. That means that alternative options will need to be sounded out.

Murillo, 22, would be ideal for Liverpool if they managed to get him. He is young, has potential to develop in the future and is left-footed which would provide nice balance in the heart of the back-line alongside Van Dijk. In addition, he has proved himself in the top flight over the past couple of campaigns.

The Brazil international, who has one cap under his belt, joined Nuno Espirito Santo’s side as a bit of an unknown quantity back in 2023. Prior to his transfer to The City Ground, he caught the eye at Corinthians before moving over to Europe from South America. He has since become one of Forest’s most prized assets and has made 70 appearances in all competitions.

Why Joe Gomez would suit Nottingham Forest

It is no secret that Nottingham Forest won’t want to sell Murillo this year. However, money talks and they would have a decision to make if a big money offer came in from Liverpool. Slot should offer them Joe Gomez as part of the deal and that could make sense for both parties.

Gomes is no longer guaranteed regular minutes with the Reds anymore and a change of scene would do him good. The 27-year-old has been with them for a decade now and has had his injury issues over recent times. Cutting ties would be a sensible decision and would free up space and funds.

The London-born rose up through the academy ranks at Charlton Athletic and broke into their first-team as a youngster. He then joined Liverpool in 2015 and has since been a good servant to the North West outfit. He has played 241 matches so far, 14 of which have come this term, and he infamously hasn’t scored a goal.

Nottingham Forest may well be in the Champions League next season and Gomes has bags of Champions League experience which will come in handy if they got him. Espirito Santo will want players who played in the tournament before so he fits the bill. The England international won it back in 2019 and got to the final in 2022.
