With that being said, every Premier League team has something to fight for and will be looking to strengthen their side ahead of next season. Here’s a look at some of the latest transfer updates in England’s top flight as the 2022/23 campaign heads towards a close.

Liverpool ‘advance’ in Alexis Mac Allister pursuit

Jurgen Klopp is eager to bolster his midfield this summer as the Reds look to bounce back from what has been an inconsistent 2022/23 season. Alexis Mac Allister has been identified as one of Liverpool’s main targets and it seems like they are very close to getting their man.

According to Argentinian journalist German Garcia Grova, the Merseyside outfit have entered ‘advanced’ talks with the World Cup winner, who is definitely set to leave Brighton at the end of the season.

The 3AM Verdict: Liverpool desperately need to pad out their midfield if they want to challenge further up the Premier League table next season, and their ageing engine room is in need of some new blood. With the likes of James Milner, Naby Keïta, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all rumoured to be moving on, now is the perfect time to make a statement move. Signing a World Cup winner, who is just 24 years old, and capable of scoring goals like Mac Allister, would probably be the smartest possible move for Liverpool this summer.

Newcastle set to offload seven players in squad overhaul

Newcastle United are enjoying a very strong season and they will undoubtedly have plenty of options when the transfer window opens. But before they can flex their muscles this summer, they are planning to part ways with a good chunk of the current squad.

That’s according to Football Insider, who report that the Magpies have picked out seven players who they are looking to sell at the end of the season. These players are Karl Darlow, Paul Dummett, Loris Karius, Emil Krafth, Jamaal Lascelles, Matty Longstaff, and Matt Ritchie.

The 3AM Verdict: Eddie Howe and Newcastle definitely look like they mean business this season, both on and off the pitch. Their top four finish is all but locked in and that, teamed up with the recent takeover, will be very attractive to new players. It makes sense to have a clear out before bringing in new personnel, and it’s always good to know clubs are actively avoiding any potential FFP breaches.

The Blues have enjoyed splashing the cash over the last few transfer windows and, based on this season’s poor run and goal return, they are eager to add more firepower to their attack. Martínez has netted an impressive 23 goals across all competitions for Inter Milan this season, and has contributed a further nine assists.

The 3AM Verdict: Chelsea are certainly lacking on the goalscoring front this season. When relegation candidates Leeds United and Leicester have scored more than you, you know something isn’t right somewhere. The Blues have heavily relied on Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling to find the back of the net — outside of the forward duo, they’ve really struggled. Any sort of attacking reinforcements would be welcome for Chelsea as they look to leave this disappointing season behind them.
