Liverpool are looking to bring in one last midfield signing before the transfer window slams shut on Friday, and it looks like they’ve finally found their man.

The end of the summer transfer window is fast approaching and Liverpool still look light in their engine room. Despite the panic signing of Wataru Endo, the Reds could still benefit from at least one extra midfielder coming through the door before Friday’s deadline.

After failing to beat Chelsea to the record deal for Moisés Caicedo, and then losing out on long-standing target Roméo Lavia in an ultimate revenge move from the Blues, Liverpool have been revisiting old flames. Jurgen Klopp and his team have been linked with a number of different midfielders this window — from Jude Bellingham to Kalvin Phillips — but only three have actually made it to Anfield.

However, upon the reignition of their interest in Ryan Gravenberch, the Reds could just manage to squeeze a deal through in the next 24 hours or so. According to Fabrizio Romano, the club have made contact with Bayern Munich and are now ‘preparing an official bid’ to try and sign the 21-year-old before 11pm on Friday. It’s going to be a tight turnaround though but the transfer expert has confirmed that Liverpool at least ‘want to try.’

Whether Liverpool can pull off a clutch last-minute signing remains to be seen but fans will surely be keeping everything crossed for some good news in these final hours. Granted, at this point, they would probably be happy with Christian Poulsen coming out of retirement and returning for a spell, but there is still hope that Liverpool can land a decent new recruit and make a statement with it.

Amid the talks between the Reds and Gravenberch, 3 Added Minutes has taken a deeper look at what kind of player he is, and yes, that means how he ranks on FIFA 23.

Ryan Gravenberch FIFA 23 ratings

Standing at sturdy six foot two, the Dutchman would be the tallest midfielder on Klopp’s senior roster. According to FIFA Index, his overall rating in FIFA 23 is 79, with a potential as high as 88. Gravenberch’s standout assets are his ball skills — he is rated 85 for ball control and 84 for dribbling, which would be crucial for when Liverpool need to cut open stubborn defensive lines.

Other strengths of the the midfielder’s include stamina (81), agility (80), vision (80), and his short passing (80). These areas still have a lot of room to improve and could be nurtured while playing Klopp’s fast-paced attacking football. His shooting is also at a good level, with shot power ranked at 78 and a long shot rating of 79.

It is worth remembering Gravenberch only recently turned 21, so he has his whole career ahead of him. With that in mind, let’s visit his weaker areas. Now, these will certainly improve as he matures as a player, especially training alongside proven internationals and shadowing new teammates who are confident playing at Premier League standard week in, week out.

Gravenberch’s main weaknesses are heading and penalty taking, both ranked at 58, as well as his overall aggression, which is his lowest stat at 52. His slide tackle is just 59 but his standing tackle is ten points higher. Other areas of improvement include his reactions (73), attacking position and interceptions (both 74), and his composure (76).

Of course though, no manager ever signed a player based on his FIFA numbers. Or maybe they did, but it seems extremely unlikely. Either way, Klopp needs a midfielder and he could have a promising player on his hands if Liverpool can strike a deal for Gravenberch in time. Particularly with Thiago’s contract expiring next summer, it wil be smart forward thinking to bring in a potential replacement now before risking this nail-biting Deadline Day chaos again in a years’ time.
