They've done it before, and they might just do it again. When it comes to snatching up shimmering gems from down-on-their-luck Premier League sides and turning them into certifiable world-beaters, Liverpool have more form than most. (I refer you, of course, to the likes of Sadio Mane, or perhaps Diogo Jota, as recent examples.)

The Reds have a knack for spotting the potential in players from the lower reaches of the division, and it would appear that they have once again set their sights on a talent who is currently operating in a more modest setting. According to the Express, Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo has piqued the interest of transfer chiefs at Anfield, and Liverpool could be compelled into making a bid this summer - especially if his current club suffer relegation back to the Championship at the end of the season. If that were to happen, the forward could reportedly be available for a 'bargain' price.

It is not hard to see why the Reds are so infatuated with Mbeumo. At 24, he is only just entering the prime of his career, and yet already he has proven himself to be a consistent and dynamic attacking presence at the highest level. In 88 Premier League outings for the Bees he has recorded 20 goals and 19 assists, including seven strikes in 15 matches this term, and whether operating on the right flank or through the centre, he poses a constant and undeniable threat.

Indeed, were Brentford to go down this season, it is almost unimaginable to consider the prospect of Mbeumo being left stranded in the second tier along with them. The Cameroonian international is a player of obvious pedigree and potential, and to that end, he may find himself on the wish lists of several high profile clubs in the coming months - even if the Bees can avoid the drop.

But Liverpool could really hand themselves an advantage by sweetening any prospective deal for Mbeumo. At the time of writing, the Reds', and in particular their sparkling array of youth prospects, are garnering plenty of media attention following their back-to-back cup heroics against Chelsea and Southampton. One impressive starlet who has had to watch on from the sidelines during this giddy spell, however, is Ben Doak.

The Scot is undoubtedly a huge talent, and one who almost certainly has a big future at Anfield. Presently injured, he still has an outside shout of playing again this season, and if he does, he will surely be in contention for a spot in Scotland's Euro 2024 squad. Beyond that, however, he faces a crucial juncture in his career.

Precocious as he may be, he will only properly realise his potential by playing regular senior football. Whether he will get that any time soon in a squad as stacked as Liverpool's remains to be seen, but at the very least, the idea of a loan exit should be floated by those in charge at Anfield.

Why not, then, send him out to Brentford for a temporary stint as a makeweight in any deal for Mbeumo? That way, Liverpool get their man while also allowing one of their brightest young talents to take the next step in his career under a very decent manager in Thomas Frank, the Bees find an immediate and suitable replacement for one of their prize assets, and Doak gets to show the world what he can do before coming back to Merseyside as a more experienced and polished proposition.

There are a lot of moving parts to consider, and a lot of variables to navigate, but it could be an agreement that suits everybody involved.
