Manchester City could be sporting a familiar strip when they compete in the Club World Cup this year

Manchester City have under-performed by their standards this season. Pep Guardiola’s serial trophy winners have fallen short and will need to dust themselves down this summer and try to rebuild for the next campaign.

City find themselves down in 5th place in the Premier League table as they look to get into the top four. They are only a point behind City in 4th with nine fixtures left to play.

The North West outfit remain in the FA Cup but were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid. Guardiola’s men are back in action after the international break with an away trip to AFC Bournemouth in the cup as they eye a place in the semi-finals at Wembley Stadium.

Has Manchester City’s Club World Cup kit been leaked?

City’s 2025 Club World Cup kit is said to have been ‘leaked’ online and the image bears a striking a similarity to their iconic Umbro third shirt from their 2011/12 title winning season. As per Footy Headlines’ (see X post below) recent social media post.

In the image, Puma look to have incorporated a ‘Tonal Sash design’ that has a black and red vertical slash across the chest. There is also a nod to the famous 'The Poznan' celebration on it too.

City won the title under Roberto Mancini wearing a similar design that year back in 2011. Former striker Sergio Aguero scored a dramatic late winner for them against QPR at home as they pipped bitter rivals Manchester United to top spot to secure their first trophy in 44 years.

The club replaced Nike with Puma back in 2019 and penned a bumper 10-year deal running until 2029 with the Germany-based brand in a deal worth up to £65million a year. They also cover their sister clubs in Australia, Spain, Uruguay and China.

Former Puma chief executive Björn Gulden, who is now with Adidas, said at the time: “Puma’s partnership with City Football Group is the largest deal that we have ever done - both in scope and ambition. We are very excited to partner with City Football Group, whose success, ambition and drive for innovation has seen them setting new standards, on and off the field. We look forward to building the most innovative partnership in football by redefining the sports partnership model both on and off the pitch.

“We want to maximise on-field performance as well as football culture, in areas such as music, gaming and fashion to connect and inspire the fanbase of each team.”

What is the Club World Cup?

If the kit leak is indeed true, City will wear it for their upcoming Club World Cup campaign. The FIFA tournament was first held back in 2000 and was stopped for a few years after that before beginning again in 2005.

It has a new format starting this year which consists of 32 teams. City are the current champions but Real Madrid hold the record for the most wins.

It is safe to say that the Club World Cup doesn’t have the best reputation, especially in England. Teams just don’t seem to be too bothered about it and tend to put their focus on the domestic league and cups and the Champions League. However, it is seen as a big deal over in South America, and interest is set to grow this year given the staggering amounts of money said to be on offer for the participating clubs.

City won it back in 2023 after beating Fluminense 4-0 in the final. Former striker Julian Alvarez scored twice against the Brazilian club and Phil Foden also got himself on the score sheet, whilst Nino scored an own goal.
