The dream striker Man United are 'leading the race' to sign and hand Ruben Amorim ultimate cutting edge

Manchester United are looking at landing a new striker who can help new manager Ruben Amorim have a smooth take off.

Newly appointed Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has said that his dream is for highly-rated Swedish attacker Viktor Gyökeres to stay at Sporting and help the team win the Portuguese league title again, despite consistent links to the former Championship striker.

According to The Star, Manchester United and Chelsea will lead the race for Viktor Gyökeres next summer, after the Sporting CP star netted a hat-trick against Manchester City.

United are in need of someone with the kind of cutting edge that Gyökeres has displayed: brutal, ruthless, and physical. For a fee of just £63 million, he could be available, which has meant that agents and clubs are now taking a more serious look at him than they did during the summer.

Gyökeres has become one of the hottest prospects in Europe following his remarkable performances with the Portuguese champions. His three goals in the Champions League against City on Tuesday night took his season's tally to 23 goals in just 17 games.

In what has been an incredible rise in European football, he has bagged 66 goals in 67 games for Sporting since they signed him from Coventry in 2023. Brighton are known for their ability to get the best out of young players, but this was one that got away from them. It's remarkable that Sporting managed to secure him for just £20 million.

During the years when United were by far the best team in the land, they had two top strikers always in their team, like Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole, or Wayne Rooney and Ruud van Nistelrooy. Whatever the pairing, every top team needs a striker who knows where the goal is. That is why the club has been linked with the Swedish forward.

To make things even more interesting is the fact that Amorim is the manager who turned Gyökeres into a world-class striker, and he will be looking to get the best out of him. It’s also notable that Amorim, out of respect for his employers, has stated he doesn’t want to be involved in any potential move for Gyökeres.

However, Manchester United, as a club, have a duty to go after what they believe will be great for the team. This is why they have been linked with the forward. They know they have a manager at the level of someone like Pep Guardiola, and now they need to back him and provide all the tools necessary to restore the club to its former glory.

The report from The Star also states that Gyökeres has a release clause of £100 million, but the president of Sporting, Frederico Varandas, is willing to reconsider his stance if a club agrees to let the player stay until the summer.

There is currently a gap in top strikers across Europe, and even Real Madrid—who boast some incredible attacking talent—are still struggling to find a reliable, out-and-out striker. Therefore, United will have to move quickly to secure a deal and avoid future competition.
