There were some high profile departures from Manchester United this summer - but how have they fared with their new clubs so far this season?

Manchester United spent just shy of £200m this summer as the Red Devils hierarchy moved to back manager Erik ten Hag and end any speculation over his future at Old Trafford.

Defensive reinforcements were found in the form of centre-backs Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt and Ajax right-back Noussair Mazraoui. Ten Hag’s midfield was bolstered with the addition of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte and United saw off competition from Serie A giants AC Milan to conclude a £36m deal for Bologna and Netherlands forward Joshua Zirkzee.

However, new arrivals meant there were several eye-catching departures from Old Trafford during the summer months - and we thought we would take a look at how those players have fared since leaving the 13-time Premier League champions.

Scott McTominay - Napoli

Probably the most high profile exit from United this summer, McTominay actually made two substitute appearances for the Red Devils as they opened their Premier League campaign with a home win against Fulham and a defeat at Brighton. However, the loss on the south coast would go down as his final appearance for his boyhood club as the Scotland international made a £25m move to Napoli. Since joining the Serie A club, McTominay has become a firm favourite, scoring two goals and providing one assist in five appearances in all competitions.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka - West Ham United

The former Crystal Palace full-back was allowed to leave Old Trafford this summer and it was West Ham that won the race for his services. Since moving to the London Stadium, Wan-Bissaka has made seven appearances in all competitions, with six coming as part of Julen Lopetegui’s starting eleven.

Willy Kambwala - Villarreal

The defender made ten appearances for United before leaving the club to join Villarreal during the summer transfer window. Kambwala has made just one appearance for the La Liga side as he started a 2-1 win at Sevilla in August.

Hannibal - Burnley

There were high hopes for the Tunisian midfielder as he made his way through the Red Devils academy - but after making 13 senior appearances, he left Old Trafford to join Burnley in August and has gone on to start all six of their Championship fixtures since his arrival. Hannibal also captured the headlines when he provoked an angry reaction from Leeds United supporters during Burnley’s 1-0 win at Elland Road earlier this season.

Facundo Pellestri - Panathinaikos

A loan spell with Granada played a part in Pellestri’s exit plan from Old Trafford and he made a permanent departure to Panathinaikos in August. The Uruguayan actually appeared in the FA Community Shield defeat against Manchester City before his exit and he has gone on to appear in all nine competitive games for the Greek side, scoring his first goal for the club in their UEFA Conference League win against Lens.

Alvaro Carreras - Benfica

The Spain Under-21 international joined the Portuguese giants on a permanent deal during the summer and has gone on to start all but two of their nine fixtures in all competitions so far this season. Promisingly for Alvaro, seven of those games have brought wins, including an impressive 4-0 home victory in a Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid.

Donny van de Beek - Girona

The 19-times capped Dutch international joined Girona in a cut-price deal as they prepared for a historic season. After ending last season in La Liga’s top four, Van de Beek’s new club are competing in the Champions League for the first time and the former United man actually scored in last week’s 3-2 defeat against Dutch side Feyenoord. In total, Van de Beek has one goal and one assist in seven appearances as his new side have made a mixed start to the season.

Raphael Varane - Como

The former Real Madrid centre-back left Old Trafford this summer to join ambitious Serie A newcomers Como on a two-year deal with the option of a further 12 months. However, Varane suffered a knee injury in a Coppa Italia tie with Sampdoria just weeks later and confirmed his retirement from the game late last month.

Jadon Sancho - Chelsea

There was some hope Sancho’s loan spell with former club Borussia Dortmund could well spark an upturn in fortunes upon his return to Old Trafford. However, a much-publicised fall-out with Erik ten Hag always lurked in the background and Sancho was not involved in United’s first two Premier League matchday squads. A loan move to Chelsea as secured on the final day of the summer transfer window and the window has made a fine start to life at Stamford Bridge with three assists in his first four appearances for the Blues.

Anthony Martial - AEK Athens

The former Monaco forward was released by United during the summer and has only recently found a new club after penning a three-year deal with Greek side AEK Athens. However, the 30-times capped France international is yet to feature for his new club as he works his way towards fitness.

Brandon Williams - Released

The Red Devils academy product left his boyhood this summer after loan spells with Norwich City and Ipswich Town failed to spark a turnaround in fortunes. As it stands, the England Under-21 international is still without a club.
