Newcastle United will be looking to reinforce their European qualification credentials when they come up against Tottenham Hotspur in a tricky Premier League clash this weekend. A narrow win over Fulham last time out left the Magpies eighth in the table, within touching distance of both West Ham and Manchester United above them.

For their part, Spurs are also in the hunt for a place on the continent next term, and leapfrogged Aston Villa into the top four following a win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday evening. They will travel to St. James’ Park for this week’s Saturday lunchtime kick-off.

But how will Newcastle line up against their visitors? We’ve taken a closer look at Eddie Howe’s current injury list, as well as any potential return dates where available, to try and get a better idea.

Sven Botman

Botman underwent knee surgery for a serious complaint last month, and may not play again this year, depending on how swiftly he can complete his rehabilitation process. Speaking about the Dutchman recently, Howe said: ‘He now has a long road ahead of him; the operation went well.'

Jamal Lascelles

Another who has sustained a serious knee injury recently, Lascelles faces a similarly lengthy absence to Botman, and is expected to miss the vast majority of 2024.

Sandro Tonali

Tonali continues to serve a ban for gambling-related offences, which is due to expire at the end of August, meaning he will miss the remainder of the season and the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

Lewis Miley

Newcastle’s teenage sensation returned from international duty last month with a lower back issue. Speaking about Miley, his manager said: 'Lewis has come back [from England] with a back problem. We are seeking a specialist opinion on him; we don't know exactly what it is right now.' It could be mid to late May before he is fit enough to feature again.

Callum Wilson

Wilson is on the comeback trail following a pectoral injury, and is expected back next month. Explaining the striker’s current situation in late March, Howe said: 'Callum is doing the hard yards. He is running hard. It is an upper limb injury, so he can keep fit, and when he is ready to come back, I think he will be looking good.'

Joelinton

Another who is likely to return in May, Joelinton has been injured since the Tyne-Wear Derby win over Sunderland on January 6th. Having gone under the knife for a thigh problem, the Brazilian is not too far away from a first team comeback.

Valentino Livramento

Livramento is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, and is likely to be ruled out for the next couple of weeks at least. May’s away trip to Burnley could be a realistic target for his return.

Miguel Almiron

The Paraguayan was not in the match day squad against Fulham after picking up a slight knee issue. Addressing Almiron’s absence, Howe said: 'Miggy tweaked his knee slightly. Again, it's not a serious injury but enough to keep him out.' Like several of his teammates, it could be next month before he returns.

Nick Pope

For a long while, the target for Pope’s comeback from a dislocated shoulder has been late April. As things stand, he should still be on track to make his comeback on schedule, with Sheffield United’s visit to St. James’ Park on the 27th feeling like a possibility.

Kieran Trippier

Another notable name on the treatment table, Trippier is sidelined with a calf problem. Saturday’s clash with Spurs is likely to come too soon for the England international, but Newcastle’s next outing, against Crystal Palace, could be a possibility.

Joe Willock

Willock was withdrawn against Fulham after straining an adductor. He is likely to face a late assessment ahead of Saturday’s match, but may not be fit enough to feature.

Matt Targett

And finally, Targett is struggling with a bout of Achilles tendonitis. Like Willock, he will face a late assessment prior to Tottenham’s visit to Tyneside this weekend.
