Over £3 billion has been spent in total by the English top tier over the summer months. Tottenham have launched a stunning transfer spree after almost getting relegated last season, coming second behind Chelsea in the list of the division’s biggest spenders. Manchester City, Newcastle United and Aston Villa complete the top five.

Our latest transfer rumour mill round-up begins in north London, where Spurs are still reeling from a 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle, making it two losses from their opening two league games this season without a single goal scored. According to The Athletic, they’re now set to bring in another high-profile name: Iliman Ndiaye from Everton.

Tottenham forward Richarlison is set to move the other way and re-join his former club, but it’s said that the two deals aren’t connected as part of a swap deal. The move comes after Manchester City moved to hijack Spurs’ attempts to sign Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo, which has now been accelerated following the Reds’ march towards signing PSG’s Bradley Barcola.

The 3AM Verdict: Spurs starting Pedro Porro on the right flank against Newcastle shows their manager Roberto De Zerbi is crying out for a new winger, and Ndiaye’s signing will be the icing on the cake of an exceptional summer window. As for Everton, you never know what you’ll get with Richarlison, but he could well thrive as he becomes the Toffees’ main man once again.

Liverpool chase Crystal Palace star

Over at Anfield, Liverpool are looking to sign another winger once they’ve completed their big-money move for Barcola. According to journalist Lassana Camara, the Reds are now pushing to sign Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr, and have already seen a bid rejected. They’re now set to up their offer, potentially as high as £68m as they look to get the deal done.

It’s also claimed “confidence is high” that Liverpool will get their man, as discussions between the two clubs continue. Sarr is capable of playing on both wings and in a more central attacking role. If he’s signed, he could well take up position on the right wing, with Barcola utilised in his favoured role out on the left flank.

The 3AM Verdict: Liverpool have left the bulk of their business until the last minute this summer, but it looks like they should just about get it all over the line. Sarr would be a great, Premier League proven signing, and would inject the kind of dynamism manager Andoni Iraola is demanding from his side. Don’t rule out the Reds also signing a new central midfielder, too.

Newcastle United are reported to have progressed to “advanced talks” in their push to sign Lille winger Matias Fernandez-Pardo, according to French outlet Foot Mercato. They say that the Magpies are closing in on a move for the £60m-rated ace, who has also had interest from the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal this summer.

It’s not clear how much the Magpies will be willing to pay, with the two clubs initially well apart in their valuations of the Belgium international, but it seems that they’re now moving closer to a mutual agreement. Fernandez-Pardo lit up Ligue 1 last season, scoring eight goals and providing five assists. He can play as a central forward, or on either wing, making him a highly flexible option.

The 3AM Verdict: The Magpies have got the season off to a far better start than most expected, after losing a number of key players and long-standing manager Eddie Howe. Their recruitment has been bold this summer, largely opting for raw young talent. Fernandez-Pardo fits this mould, and would be another exciting signing for Newcastle fans to enjoy.
