The feel-good factor around Newcastle United has arguably never been more contagious and the feeling from sources inside the club is that this somewhere will be much bigger than the previous three transfer windows in terms of spending.
“I think we’re in a better position regarding PSR and that’s the key thing,” said Eddie Howe in his most recent press conference with Newcastle World. “Hopefully this summer has a totally different sort of view,” he added.

The Magpies are determined to go further this time around if they do make it back to Europe’s elite competition and have already ensured that they will have some form of football on the continent this season by beating champions elect Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley. After achieving domestic success their next step will be to go as far as they can in Europe while consistently challenging at the top level in the league.
In order to do that, the feeling inside Newcastle is that they will need another centre back. The Magpies signed Lloyd Kelly on a free from Bournemouth before swiftly selling him on for £20m to Juventus just six months later. While it was sensational business from a PSR standpoint, it leaves the club short on options with cup final hero Dan Burn and the experienced Fabian Schar being the club’s only centre back options amid long-term injuries to Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles.
Could Newcastle United return to the table with an offer for Marc Guehi
Newcastle United were accused of putting all their eggs in one basket last summer when they made multiple offers to Crystal Palace to try and secure the services of defender Marc Guehi. The former Chelsea academy graduate has been imperative to the Palace backline since his arrival in 2021 and has racked up nearly 150 appearances for the club while also having an impressive season as captain this season.

However, that was off the back of a European Championships where Guehi had played nearly every game en route to the final. This time around the defender is in the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park and they may be more open to listening to offers for a defender that could leave on a free transfer by the summer of 2026.
The bold summer swap deal that could work for Newcastle and Crystal Palace
Newcastle United need reinforcements at centre-back to help take the club to the next level and Marc Guehi is certainly a player with the qualities that can benefit the Magpies moving forward. However, as previous instances have proven, Steve Parish is known for driving a hard bargain and will look to get the best possible deal for his team.
One method Newcastle could use to take advantage of the situation is a cash-plus player deal involving someone like Harvey Barnes. The former Leicester winger has largely struggled for game time since making the move to the North East and though he has impressed in flashes, he has often struggled to usurp Anthony Gordon on the left wing.
This could appeal to Crystal Palace, who are likely to be in the market for a winger if Eberechi Eze was to depart amid reports of strong interest from various top Premier League teams.
