Isak, Hall, Botman: Newcastle United injury news and return dates ahead of West Ham and Liverpool

Newcastle United suffered their fifth defeat in 10 matches against Brighton in a result which ended the team’s hopes of winning the FA Cup for another year.
But the consequences of that defeat could be even more fatal as the club prepares for a season-defining month of action without Anthony Gordon, who was given a straight red card for pushing Jan Paul van Hecke - a decision which crucially rules him out of the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool through suspension.

Elsewhere, Kieran Trippier also left the field after 69 minutes with an apparent knock while Sven Botman after returning from his ACL is still getting up to speed after another minor setback.
Newcastle know they will need to be at their best if they are to end their 56-year-wait for silverware which came in the Inter Cities Fairs Cup in 1969. But before that final with Liverpool at Wembley Stadium they also face an important test in the race for Champions League qualification as they travel to face Graham Potter’s West Ham in East London. Ahead of a season-defining period for the Magpies, we take a look at the latest injury news from inside St James’ Park.
Newcastle United defensive injury issues
Sven Botman - doubt: In his first season Sven Botman looked like Newcastle’s best centre back since Jonathan Woodgate. The former Lille man was a near-represent in the best backline in the league in the 2022/23 season and was a huge miss in his second term when he sustained an ACL problem. The Dutch international has been in and around the team since the start of 2025 with five appearances but recently suffered a setback to his knee although it is not the same one where he had his ACL injury. Eddie Howe is confident the injury won’t be long-term but is being careful not to rush Botman back too quickly. Expected return date: 10/03/2025.
Lewis Hall - out: Lewis Hall was a surprise omission from the squad against Brighton after sustaining an ankle injury against Liverpool in the previous outing. The ex-Chelsea man was actually commended for his performance against Mohamed Salah despite the loss at Anfield and was a source of attacking creativity with his overlapping runs.

He did not really recover well [post-match], so he has been to see a specialist after a scan. We are awaiting further news,” explained the Newcastle boss. Expected return date: unknown.
Kieran Trippier - out: Former England right-back Kieran Trippier was subbed off against Brighton with a lower back injury. The full extent of his problem has not yet been determined and it remains to be seen if he will be fit in time for the Carabao Cup final. Expected return date: unknown.
Jamaal Lascelles - out: Ex-Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles sustained an ACL injury in January 2024. He is still working his way back to fitness and is behind Sven Botman in his rehabilitation process. “Jamaal is continuing to work... He has had setbacks, nothing major, but little moments that have knocked his recovery. He has been on the grass, training individually with the physios. He has not gone beyond that stage yet. We are probably looking towards the end of the season as a return date,” explained Eddie Howe. Expected return date: 03/05/25.

Alexander Isak - returns: Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe claims Alexander Isak was only subbed off against Brighton due to general fatigue after returning from a minor knock which kept him out against Liverpool. The Swedish striker, who has scored 22 goals will be imperative if Newcastle are to end the season on a high. Expected return date: 10/03/25.
Anthony Gordon - suspended: Anthony Gordon was sent off for pushing Jean Paul van Hecke in the face in an off the ball incident against Brighton. Newcastle are considering appealing the ban in an effort to get one of their star players available for Wembley. Howe explained: “It looked harsh, but we will have to analyse it properly. We have not seen a replay of it. I am going on my original view. Possibly, [we will appeal]. Anthony didn’t mean any harm.” Expected return date: 07/04/2025.
