Botman, Wilson, Pope: Newcastle United injury news latest updates ahead of Brentford and Ipswich Town tests
Newcastle United will hope to take another step towards a second Wembley appearance in three seasons when they host Brentford in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
Eddie Howe’s side have already seen off Nottingham Forest, AFC Wimbledon and Chelsea to reach the last eight of the competition - and they will now look to avenge their recent Premier League defeat against the Bees by gaining a win at St. James’ Park. The tie kicks off a hectic festive schedule as the Magpies travel to Ipswich Town on Saturday before facing a quickfire double header against Aston Villa and Manchester United on Boxing Day and the final Saturday of the year respectively.

Sven Botman
There was some positive news for Howe on Monday when the Dutch centre-back came through an hour for the Magpies Under-21s as they claimed a home win against their Chelsea counterparts. Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Carabao Cup tie, Howe said: "He was good last night, he seemed in a good place, we exchanged messages. His movement was good, commanding and a big presence on the pitch. We have missed him. That was a good step for him to get back on the pitch. We are looking at the end of December or start of January, give him a few more games to get him back on track.” Possible return date: Early January 2025.
Callum Wilson
There was a further blow for the England striker last week when it was confirmed Wilson had suffered a hamstring injury that will ensure he heads into the new year with just four Premier League appearances to his name. After recovering from a back injury, the former Bournemouth frontman is now back on the treatment table as he prepares to enter the final six months of his current deal at Newcastle. Possible return date: Mid-February 2025.
Nick Pope
The England goalkeeper had played each and every minute of Newcastle’s Premier League campaign before he suffered a knee injury in the recent defeat at Brentford. That is set to keep Pope on the sidelines until the new year. Speaking ahead of the weekend win against Leicester, Howe said: “He saw the specialist, and the feedback is that he's going to be out for around a month. He injured himself just passing a ball against Brentford. It was really innocuous looking.” Possible return date: Mid-January 2025.

The Magpies club captain has not featured since he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in a dramatic win against West Ham United in March. Lascelles has been working his way back towards a return to training in recent weeks and there is an expectation he is around a month away from recovering. Possible return date: Mid-January 2025.
Emil Krafth
Krafth is a valued member of Howe’s squad and is viewed as a reliable option as cover across the back four. That is why the Magpies boss viewed it as a major blow when the Swede suffered a shoulder injury that will keep him out of action until next month. Possible return date: Mid-January 2025.
