The latest team news, injury updates and predicted XI ahead of Newcastle United's visit to Premier League rivals Burnley on Saturday.

Newcastle United will aim to boost their hopes of returning to European competition and improve their below-par away record with a win at relegation threatened Burnley.

Eddie Howe will take his current side to face his former employers on Saturday looking to end a run of seven defeats in their last ten games away from St. James’ Park. The Turf Moor clash also offers the Magpies a chance to lay down a marker in the race for Europe as their Saturday afternoon clash comes just over 48 hours before top six rivals Manchester United face a tricky looking trip to Crystal Palace.

However, Howe’s men will know they will have to be at their best to beat a Burnley side that have given themselves a chance of escaping the relegation zone by taking hard-earned points from games against Manchester United and Brighton and Hove Albion, as well as easing to a win at fellow strugglers Sheffield United last month.

Newcastle United team news

Injuries have been a feature of Newcastle’s season as Howe has been forced to go into battle without a whole host of key players and the trip to Burnley is no different as the Magpies boss will be missing eleven members of his squad.

There were high hopes Swiss defender Fabian Schar would be available to start after he hobbled out of last weekend’s big win against Sheffield United with a thigh injury - and the former Deportivo La Corona man was certain to start if he is fit as fellow centre-backs Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman remain on the sidelines with long-term injuries. However, Emil Krafth could now start alongside Dan Burn after Schar was ruled out for the remainder of the season. Full-backs Matt Targett and Kieran Trippier will both miss out once again.

The midfield ranks have been depleted by injuries to Joe Willock, Lewis Miley and Joelinton - although the latter is rapidly closing in on a comeback that has limited his involvement during the second half the season. Sandro Tonali also remains unavailable as he continues to serve the long-term ban he has handed for breaching gambling regulations in Italy.

However, there is some hope that Miguel Almiron will return to contention after he missed the last five games with a knee injury. Callum Wilson will also push for a start after marking his return from a pectoral injury with a goal in last weekend’s home win against Sheffield United - although it would be no surprise if the form of Alexander Isak means the England striker is named amongst the substitutes once again.

Newcastle United predicted XI

Dubravka, Livramento, Krafth, Burn, Hall, Guimaraes, Longstaff, Anderson, Barnes, Gordon, Isak.
