The January transfer window is fast approaching and the Premier League action is delivering as promised. As it stands, the title race is wide open and could well go right down to the wire, with the fight for European football also heating up and pulling in several clubs.

There's no doubt that the majority of teams in England's top flight — regardless of their respective season goals — will be looking to bring in reinforcements in January. Rumours are carrying over from the summer and new sparks are also forming, so let's dive into some of the latest whispers on the rumour mill as we enter the final weeks of 2023.

Kimmich would 'suit' Liverpool

Liverpool are still on the market for another midfielder as they look to increase their options in the No.6 role. BILD's Christian Falk has reported that the Reds are among a number of big European sides showing interest in signing Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich.

The report claims Jurgen Klopp would be happy to welcome the German international to Anfield, and the versatile midfielder would 'suit' the style of play the Reds have to offer. Kimmich's current contract is due to expire in 2025 but signing him will be no easy feat.

The 3AM Verdict: Bringing in a tried, tested and confident international superstar like Kimmich would be a big statement signing for Liverpool. Their summer midfield haul was impressive but they have struggled to find someone to replace Fabinho. Kimmich mainly plays in defensive midfield nowadays, but has often featured at centre-back and right-back comfortably, meaning he would provide a lot of much-needed coverage across multiple positions. He is currently valued at €75 million (£64m) by Transfermarkt, which is a very respectable sum for such a player.

Spurs enter race for Premier League midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur have been hammered by injuries lately and January will present plenty of opportunities for them to plug some of the gaps left in their squad. The midfield has taken the biggest blow, with as many as five senior midfielders currently on the sidelines.

According to Football Insider, Ange Postecoglou and co have entered the race to sign out of favour Kalvin Phillips in the new year. The Manchester City man has attracted a lot of attention in recent months and Spurs are aware they face 'massive' competition for his signature.

The 3AM Verdict: Phillips is a very attractive transfer target right now and there are plenty of top sides who are looking to sign him. Spurs arguably need him the most though. After the latest injury blow to Rodrigo Bentancur, their midfield is depleting fast, and they are set to lose Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma to the African Cup of Nations in the new year too. Phillips needs game time to stay in contention for international football, Spurs need options, and Man City are stacked in their own engine room, so it's a win for all involved if he completes the move.

Arsenal 'willing' to let midfielder leave

Rounding off a full house of midfielder rumours, Arsenal are reportedly 'willing' to let Jorginho see out his contract and let him leave the club. That's also according to Football Insider, who report that the two parties ready to part ways when the Italian's terms end at the end of this season.

Arsenal are on the market for a new defensive midfielder in January and if they are successful, it will surely push out Jorginho.

The 3AM Verdict: The Gunners banked marquee signing Declan Rice during the summer and he has started every single Premier League match this season. Jorginho has been getting minutes, but sporadically, and quite have been cameo appearances at best. With him nearing the later years of his career and Arsenal not guaranteeing him play time, it seems the best option for both club and player to agree on an amicable departure next year.
