Spurs make major transfer decision on £24m star as Brentford and Nottingham Forest eye Spain winger

The 3AddedMinutes take on the latest Premier League transfer talk.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to make a major decision over the future of captain Heung-min Son.

The 32-year-old has become an integral figure with the North London club after scoring 164 goals and providing 86 assists in over 400 appearances since he moved to Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in a £24m deal during the summer of 2015. Although Son is out of contract next summer, the forward has already indicated he would be willing to commit his long-term future to the club over the near future.

Speaking earlier this week, the South Korea international said: “We haven’t talked [about] anything yet. It was very clear for me, I’m very focused for this season. At this age, every second is like a goal. Especially this season, we are in a lot of competitions, it feels like I’m taking even more care about this. I’m just fully focused on this situation and this year. I just want to win something that everybody in this club and these players and all around deserves. That’s what I’m working for. In the future, you never know what’s going to happen, but I will make sure I give everything for this club. It’s almost ten years that I give everything. We’ll see what happens. I still have a contract with the club which is the main important thing. I just want to give everything while I have my contract."

However, the Evening Standard have claimed Spurs are ready to trigger a one-year extension within Son’s deal and ensure the forward extends his stay with the club into an eleventh season.

The 3AM Verdict: It’s hard to imagine a Spurs side without Son - but that was a realistic prospect as he entered into the final year of his current deal. There would certainly be a whole host of takers if the forward was to leave the club - so triggering the extension in his deal makes sense.”

Bees linked with January move for Spain Under-21 winger

Brentford are reportedly in the race to sign highly-rated Real Betis winger Assane Diao.

The Spain Under-21 international enjoyed something of a breakthrough year with the La Liga club last season as he scored four goals in 28 appearances and caught the eye with some impressive displays. However, he struggled for game-time during the latter weeks of the season and has made just one start so far this season. That came in a 2-0 home win against Leganes earlier this month and his only other appearances came from the bench in a La Liga defeat against Real Madrid and both legs of a UEFA Conference League qualifying round tie with Ukraine Premier Liga club Kryvbas.

Originally a midfielder, Assane Diao has been converted into a winger at Real Betis. The 18-year-old, who was born in Senegal but is a youth international for Spain, marked his first two senior starts with a goal in each game. Real Madrid and Brentford reportedly hold an interest in the teenager.placeholder image

The 19-year-old still has three years remaining on his current deal with Betis - but Estadio Deportivo have claimed he is ‘far from being the first offensive option for (Manuel) Pellegrini’ and could be allowed to leave the club during the January transfer window. Brentford and Nottingham Forest are both named as possible suitors along with RB Leipzig, Feyenoord, RB Leipzig, Villarreal and Getafe.

The 3AM Verdict: This is a curious one. Had it come 12 months ago, when Diao was making a serious impression during his early days in the senior setup with Betis, there would have been some sense to it. But his form in recent weeks and the latter part of last season suggested adapting to life at a senior level may be a more gradual process. There is promise there - but a move to the Premier League should not be on the agenda just yet.
