This is it, folks. Deadline day is nigh. The final opportunity for clubs to strengthen ahead of the coming campaign, and the last trepidatious obstacle to navigate for those who went early with their decision on which name and number to get on the back of their new home kit. Thoughts and prayers to anybody currently in possession of a ‘Salah, 11’ shirt.

Anyways, as always, the last few hours of the window are likely to be utterly, unashamedly frantic, and with that in mind, we’ve wrapped a tiny, tiny fragment of today’s hot gossip into one handy, manageable morsel. It’s not a lot, but it’s better than nothing.

Spurs focus on Johnson

Ansu Fati? Brighton? Never heard of ‘em, mate. Nope, Tottenham have always, absolutely, unequivocally been interested in Brennan Johnson and Brennan Johnson alone. Honest.

With a certain aforementioned Barcelona prospect on his way to the south coast, Spurs look set to redouble their efforts to sign the Wales international from Nottingham Forest, with the Evening Standard claiming that they will now ‘focus’ in on the 22-year-old ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline.

Johnson is valued at around £50 million by his current club, but Tottenham could propose a part-exchange deal involving unwanted members of Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

The 3AM Verdict: This could be a real coup for Spurs if they can get it over the line. £50 million is a considerable price tag, but Johnson is a considerable talent, and if he makes good on even half of the potential that he has shown during his time in the Premier League up to present, then he could be a very, very astute addition, both for now, and for the future.

Everton eye Cornet

Things are bad at Everton. How bad, exactly? Well, three games into the new season and there is already a near-omnipresent consensus that they are doomed to toil away in yet another relegation battle this term. Sean Dyche will hope that is not the case, of course, and to give his side the best possible chance of avoiding such a fate, it is understood that he is seeking late attacking reinforcements.

More specifically, he is seeking a loan deal for West Ham’s Maxwel Cornet, as per The Telegraph. The Ivorian is a player who the Toffees missed out on a year ago as several clubs tussled to prise him away from Burnley’s clutches, but after an underwhelming spell with his current side, he could end up at Goodison Park regardless. Scientists call this ‘The Arnaut Danjuma Phenomenon’.

The 3AM Verdict: Would you look at that? A deal that makes sense for all parties! Everton get a player who has half an idea of where the back of the net is, Cornet gets some actual real life minutes, and West Ham (presumably) get some help in paying an employee who barely features in David Moyes’ starting XI. Win, win, win.

Sinisterra in demand

And finally, Leeds United winger Luis Sinisterra is proving to be a popular boy in the final hours of this summer transfer bazaar. According to Football Transfers (and with a name like that, they should really know their stuff), the Colombian is a target for Crystal Palace, as well as - you guessed it - Everton.

The Eagles are understood to be considering an approach before Friday’s deadline, with Leeds not necessarily against the idea of selling the 24-year-old in the dying embers of the window. Whether Dyche and his Toffees will look to stick an oar in too, only they know.

The 3AM Verdict: In a difficult campaign for Leeds that was interrupted on a personal level by injuries, Sinisterra still showed that he had plenty of Premier League quality, and if Palace - or indeed Everton - can lure him away from Elland Road for a decent enough price, it could prove to be a pretty smart acquisition.
