Six years, a World Cup semi-final, a Nations League semi-final, a European Championship Final and a relegation have past since Gareth Southgate was named as permenant manager of England.
The former Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough star was already within the Three Lions setup when Sam Allardyce was forced to step down after just 67 days and one match in charge. Southgate took over on an interim basis, overseeing two wins and two draws before being handed the reins on a permanent basis in late November 2016.
After penning a four-year deal, Southgate had to wait until an away friendly in Germany four months later to name his first England senior squad after gaining experience as manager of the Under-21s. He would go on to oversee a 1-0 defeat in Dortmund as Lukas Podolski grabbed the only goal in what was the final game of his international career.
Several of the players called upon by Southgate with likely feature in the World Cup Finals in Qatar later this month - but the international careers of some others came to an end within months of that meeting with Germany.
