The latest team news, injury update and predicted XI ahead of Aston Villa vs Manchester United game.

Aston Villa produced their biggest European night in more than 40 years as they beat giants Bayern Munich 1-0 at Villa Park. Flying high, they now welcome 13th-placed Manchester United, who have conceded six goals in their last two games.

Villa would have been competing with Liverpool for the top of the Premier League table if they hadn’t surprisingly dropped points against Ipswich at the weekend. However, their start to the season has been impressive, with 13 points and sitting in fifth place.

Their win against Bayern came at a cost, as the unfortunate Jacob Ramsey was forced off with an apparent groin issue in the first half, and Amadou Onana who was signed in the summer for £50m was withdrawn in the second half due to a tight hamstring.

With that in mind, here is the team we anticipate Emery will put out:

Goalkeeper and Defenders

Emi Martinez is rightly the number one goalkeeper at the club, and there is no doubt he is a game-changer. In high-profile matches like this, he can be an absolutely vital game-winner for the team. The defence is likely to consist of the usual suspects: Ezri Konsa, Diego Carlos, Pau Torres, and Lucas Digne.

Midfielders

Given Onana’s withdrawal in midweek, he might have to start from the bench, which opens up the chance for Ross Barkley to come into midfield, along with Morgan Rogers, who can play in midfield even though he prefers to play in attack. Youri Tielemans has pleasantly surprised a few and is likely to be included, aiming to exploit the gaps in the Manchester United backline.

Forwards

The forward line is where the competition really heats up. There’s a strong feeling that Jhon Duran has done more than enough to earn his start, and he will likely play up top with the irrepressible Ollie Watkins. The two can alternate positions at any time, while the rapid Jaden Philogene will provide width on the wings.
