Kamara, Ramsey & Cash: Aston Villa latest injury news and expected return dates

The latest Aston Villa injury news and expected return dates prior to their Premier League match against Crystal Palace.

After an impressive start to the season, Unai Emery’s Aston Villa head into the November international break on the back of a five-match winless streak, and the chance to regroup could hardly have come at a better time – and also provides some recently injured players with a chance to recover.

Jacob Ramsey and Boubacar Kamara will both be doubts for Villa’s next Premier League match against Crystal Palace on 23 November, according to a report from The Athletic (paywalled), and there are at least two more players who could be unavailable for a home game that Villa will desperately want to win in order to keep their chances of consecutive Champions League qualifications going.

We’ve got all of the latest injury news and updates for Aston Villa’s squad below for you, along with their expected return dates when available.

Boubacar Kamara

The French midfielder has only just returned to full fitness following a long-term anterior cruciate ligament injury which he suffered in February, but has now suffered a fresh setback after injuring his hamstring in the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

Kamara came on as a second-half substitute but saw the game out despite the fact that he “felt something”, according to Emery. The Athletic report that he has sustained a Grade 1 strain, which would typically see Kamara sidelined for around three weeks. As a result, he is a serious doubt for the match against Palace.

Jacob Ramsey

Ramsey is another player who has an extremely frustrating run of injuries over the past year, an missed much of the second half of the 2023/24 season with a toe injury – and he was forced off the field once more after picking up a hamstring problem of his own.

Ramsey was substituted in the first half against Liverpool, with The Athletic reporting that he has a “similar” recovering timeframe to Kamara. That means that the 23-year-old is also a serious doubt to face Palace, but should be back by the turn of the month barring further setbacks.

Matty Cash

Poland international full-back Cash was absent from the recent defeats to Liverpool and Club Brugge courtesy of a groin injury which he picked up following a challenge by Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero the prior weekend.

The injury is believed to be minor and he was only expected to miss a week of playing time, with Emery saying that he would “hopefully” return after the international break. Cash was not selected for the Polish Nations League squad, but that was expected given that he has not been capped since last October.

Ross Barkley

The former Everton and Luton Town midfielder has missed the last three matches following an unspecified knock, which Emery had previously explained would sideline him for “a few weeks”.

There is a general expectation that he will be back in action after the break, but without a detailed prognosis or any updates from the club, that is impossible to confirm.
