The latest Aston Villa injury news and expected return dates ahead of the Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

Given their recent run of sub-par form, the international break seemed to have come at the perfect time for Aston Villa – but they haven’t emerged from it unscathed, with a couple of injury worries cropping up over the course of the last week.

Amadou Onana picked up an injury while on duty with Belgium, Ezri Konsa was hurt playing for England, and centre-back Pau Torres ended up withdrawing from the Spain squad thanks to a fitness issue of his own – and they’re just three of eight players who are potential doubts for Saturday’s home game against Crystal Palace.

We’ve got the latest injury news and updates on all of the players who could miss out when Premier League football returns this weekend, as well as their expected return dates when available.

Amadou Onana

Summer signing Onana has enjoyed an impressive start to his Villa career, but he will now miss some time after tearing a muscle in his foot during Belgium’s 1-0 Nations League defeat to Italy on Thursday.

The injury will reportedly keep him on the sidelines for up to three weeks, which means he will miss the matches against Palace and against Juventus in the Champions League next week. The matches against Brentford and Southampton in early December are realistic targets for a return.

Pau Torres

Torres was sent home from Spain’s training camp after he reported for national duty with “muscular discomfort”. Following an assessment by the Spanish medical staff, he returned to Birmingham. The good news is that he was apparently sent back “to avoid any risk of injury,” which implies that he doesn’t have an ongoing injury concern. He is likely to be available for selection this weekend.

Ezri Konsa

The versatile defender underwent a scan on a hip injury that he sustained while playing for England in Athens – he was substituted at half-time and was later seen limping as a result of the knock. Lee Carsley suggested that the England medical team didn’t believe the injury was serious, but he was nevertheless sent home as a precaution after training alone prior to the 5-0 win over the Republic of Ireland. A minor doubt for the Palace match.

Jacob Ramsey

Ramsey was forced from the field in the first half of the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool after picking up a hamstring injury. The initial prognosis, as reported by The Athletic (paywalled) suggested that the issue was not too serious, and that he would miss no more than two to three weeks of action. That makes him a doubt for the match against Palace, but he shouldn’t be out for long – good news for a player who has had more than his fair share of fitness issues over the past year.

Boubacar Kamara

Just like Ramsey, Kamara suffered a hamstring injury against Liverpool after coming on as a late substitute. Manager Unai Emery told the media that Kamara, who has just returned following an anterior cruciate ligament injury, had “felt something” while running. He is also expected to miss two to three weeks. The Frenchman has some chance of playing a part against Palace, but given his recent injury problems he may well not be risked.

Ian Maatsen

Another international injury withdrawal – the Dutchman had been earmarked to play for the Netherlands Under-21s but was one of two players sent home without playing due to an injury. No details about the problem have been made public, and as such there is no news about the likelihood that he’s able to play on Saturday.

Matty Cash

Cash missed the matches against Liverpool and Club Brugge thanks to a calf injury which Emery described as “small”. The club have not provided any further updates and the Poland international remains a doubt for Saturday’s match as it stands.

Ross Barkley

Another player with a “small” injury, Barkley has missed the last three games with an unspecified knock. Emery suggested that he would be out for the first two weeks of November, which implies that he should be fit to return now that the international break is in the rear-view mirror.
