Rogers, Mings, Barkley: Latest Aston Villa injury news and return dates ahead of Crystal Palace clash

The latest Aston Villa injury news features updates on Morgan Rogers and Tyrone Mings, who picked up knocks against Chelsea.

Aston Villa’s 2-1 win over Chelsea on Saturday evening, courtesy of goals and assists by deadline-day signings Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio, provided a timely boost to their chances of qualifying for the Champions League once more – but it also came at a cost, with both Morgan Rogers and Tyrone Mings potentially picking up injuries.

With a midweek Premier League match at Selhurst Park coming up on Tuesday evening, both players’ availability could be in doubt, especially with a hectic schedule over the coming weeks as Villa battle on three fronts at the same time.

We’ve got the latest updates on their fitness and all of Aston Villa’s other injured players below, along with their expected return dates when available.

Rogers & Mings latest doubts

Attacking midfielder Rogers was replaced with 12 minutes of normal time remaining against Chelsea after sustaining an apparent contact injury thanks to a tackle from Christopher Nkunku.

Unai Emery told reporters after the game that “he had a kick” and had requested that he be replaced, with Donyell Malen filling in for the remainder of the match – and while the Spaniard didn’t disclose the exact nature of the knock, he did add that Rogers would “hopefully” be passed fit to play against Crystal Palace. Further tests may be required on Monday, however.

Joining Rogers on the list of victims of the Chelsea game is centre-half Mings, who needed treatment for another injury to his knee in the second half and was eventually replaced around ten minutes later in apparent discomfort.

There have yet to be any updates on the condition of Mings, who came back from a year-long lay-off due to an ACL injury earlier this season and also missed time over the past month with another knee issue. It is unclear whether he will be available to play against Palace, although Villa will have Axel Disasi back to partner Ezri Konsa if required – the Chelsea loanee was ineligible to play for his parent club on Saturday.

Barkley close to return but three out for Palace

Despite the return of Konsa and Leon Bailey, who played for the last quarter of an hour against Chelsea, Villa still have four other first-team players on the sidelines and only one has any realistic chance of facing Palace on Tuesday night.

Midfielder Ross Barkley has missed most of 2025 so far with a calf injury but although his rehabilitation process has been slower than anticipated, Emery told reporters during his pre-match press conference ahead of the Chelsea game that he expected the former Everton and Luton Town man to return to training this week. It is not clear that he will be ready for Tuesday, but a place on the bench is possible.

Three players will certainly miss out are Boubacar Kamara, Amadou Onana and Pau Torres. Defensive midfielders Kamara and Onana are both two to three weeks away from a return to full fitness due to hamstring injuries picked up in the last fortnight, and are expected to miss the next three games at a minimum. Spanish centre-back Torres, meanwhile, is expected to return at a similar time after a serious ankle injury sidelined him for two months.

None of three are expected to have any chance of playing against Palace, however, or in Friday’s FA Cup fifth round match against Cardiff City or the first leg of Villa’s Champions League last 16 tie against Club Brugge. It remains to be seen whether either Rogers or Mings are unavailable for any part of a busy and important week.
