Liverpool are yet to bring in a new signing this summer and Deadline Day is approaching.

Liverpool could potentially see out this year without signing a single new player. The Reds have been named amid so many interesting links since January but they are yet to bring in any new blood. There are less than two weeks before the transfer window slams shut and Liverpool’s squad looks almost identical to last season.

This could be viewed as both a positive and a negative. On the one hand, it’s very reassuring for fans to know that the players have taken well to Slot and his staff, and are committed to the cause at Anfield. Following Jurgen Klopp’s exit, a lot of uncertainty was bubbling over the status of crucial players like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. Many predicted a domino effect after Klopp’s departure, with players also opting to leave amid the end of an era.

However, unless a major curveball is thrown into the mix, the Reds will see out this season with their most reliable players at their disposal. Potentially seeing out a full year without any new signings could be detrimental though, especially when taking into account the injury issues from last season.

Jamie Carragher has weighed in on Liverpool’s lack of activity so far but he doesn’t see any need to be concerned. The Anfield icon spoke on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football with Gary Neville and aired his relaxed view towards the Reds not yet bringing in any new players.

“I love the fact, not just now, but even in the past, we don't panic. I really admire that about the club. When I see the situation at Chelsea, players left right and centre coming and going, it scares me. I'd never want it to be like that.

Neville agreed with the take but asked whether Liverpool are in a position to splash significant cash when it is needed. The transfer market is only continuing to grow in value and some players are now worth astronomical amounts of money. The reports of Saudi Arabia bidding upwards of £200 million in attempt to sign Mohamed Salah last summer is all the proof you need.

“This is an age-old argument between Liverpool supporters,” Carragher replied. “Liverpool bid £100m for Moises Caicedo last season. So if he wanted to go to Liverpool, they would have spent £100m. The most expensive midfielder along with Declan Rice — £110m they bid. The money was there. They bid £50m for Zubimendi. If the player is there who they want, they'll spend.”

Slot has already admitted he thinks the squad he has inherited is ‘really strong’ and that finding the right players to strengthen their ranks is not an easy task. However, Klopp’s final season was hampered with injuries, particularly across the backline. Since then, Joël Matip has left the club and Joe Gomez has been linked with a potential exit too, which could well come to fruition after he was left out of the team to face Ipswich Town.

Liverpool do have options to fall back on but potentially losing two senior centre-backs in one window and not replacing them could be costly if injury strikes again. Salah is also the only recognised senior right-winger on the books, and while other can certainly slot into his place, there is no natural back-up for him.

Not rushing into deals they may not actually need beyond 2024 is definitely a mindful approach from Liverpool, but they will be keeping everything crossed that they don’t suffer any long-term injuries between now and the January window.
