The Premier League is back underway following the international break and clubs are pushing for their respective missions once again. We have already seen some interesting results so far this season and we can expect plenty of twists and turns in the tale that is 2024/25.

The transfer window has closed for the summer but reports are already doing the rounds regarding how next year could unfold. Plenty of Premier League rumours are emerging every day ahead of January, so let’s take a look at some of the latest headlines.

Newcastle want ‘top drawer’ winger

Newcastle United are already plotting how they might go about their transfer business in 2025 and according to Football Insider, they are ‘working on signing’ a new ‘top drawer quality’ right-winger following their failed pursuit of Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest.

The Magpies had been hoping to secure a late move for the forward on Deadline Day, but they were unable to get a deal over the line before the transfer window slammed shut. Now, Eddie Howe has highlighted the right side of his attack as an area he wants to improve with a ‘brilliant’ player.

The report claims that pressure is mounting on sporting director Paul Mitchell and the recruitment team, after attempted moves for Elanga and Marc Guehi failed to come to fruition during an overall underwhelming summer.

The 3AM Verdict: Fans would have wanted to see a much stronger transfer window from Newcastle but they will now have to wait until January at the very earliest to bring in players they need. After failing to sign some marquee targets who had been on the radar for some time, the Magpies will make a statement in the new year if they are able to bring in an exciting new attacking option.

Liverpool join race for England international

One of Liverpool’s main focuses during the summer was on signing a new midfielder but after talks collapsed with Martín Zubimendi, their overall interest in new engine room signings ended. The Reds are still keen on bringing in a new midfield though, and they could make moves in January.

According to another Football Insider report, Liverpool have joined the race to sign former Manchester United star Angel Gomes from Lille. Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur are also in the equation and all three clubs sent scouts to watch him in action for England against Finland earlier this week.

Gomes joined Lille in 2020 and he is now into the final 12 months of his contract, which means Liverpool and others will be able to enter pre-contract negotiations in January, providing he doesn’t sign a new deal.

The 3AM Verdict: Gomes impressed in his first England appearance and now, clubs are eager to bring him back to the Premier League. Last season, the 24-year-old contributed two goals and ten assists across all competitions and despite being an attacking midfielder by trade, he can operate centrally and in the No.6 role, which is where Arne Slot is looking to bolster. Signing the 24-year-old for free will also be a very attractive option for Michael Edwards, Richard Hughes and co.
