The biggest new Premier League transfer rumours, including news from Manchester City, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Spurs and Newcastle.

Welcome to your Thursday dose of Premier League transfer rumours – once again, we’ve scoured the internet to round up the biggest and boldest stories doing the rounds over the past 24 hours or so, and today we start up at the Etihad.

One Manchester City has barely had time to sip the last of his celebratory champagne before finding out that he could be moving on – goalkeeper Ederson may be something of a club legend at this point, but that doesn’t make him immune to Pep Guardiola’s ruthless policy of moving players on before they get too old for their own good.

According to Caught Offside, Saudi Pro League clubs Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad are both interested in signing the 30-year-old Brazilian for a fee in the region of €45-50m (£38-43m). Apparently “sources close to the situation” say that City may well sanction the sale for that sort of price.

The 3AM Verdict: Players like Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Aymeric Laporte have all been shown the door in their apparent primes when deemed surplus to requirements, and Guardiola has never been shy of making big calls to move players on – most of which have been proven right. But at 30, Ederson surely has a few more good years left in him, which makes this one seem a little stranger than most. But perhaps City think they can improve on him? They rarely seem to get such judgement calls wrong…

Three sides signal interest in Villa man

Over to Villa Park now, where TeamTalk claim that interest in Aston Villa midfielder and academy product Jacob Ramsey is growing at a rapid rate. Newcastle United have been linked with him before, but now Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have joined the hunt, according to “a trusted source.”

The dynamic 22-year-old midfielder missed the end of the campaign with a nasty toe injury but should be fit and firing by the time pre-season rolls around – not that he’ll necessarily be reporting to Bodymoor. Apparently, Villa will need to sell at least one star player to make ends meet and Ramsey is “highly sought after.”

The 3AM Verdict: Ramsey isn’t necessarily irreplaceable for Villa and it may well be less painful to lose him than, say, Douglas Luiz, but seeing home-grown players leave is never pleasant. We’re slightly sceptical about Liverpool’s interest, if only because they have more forward-thinking midfielders than they know what to do with already.

Simons says no to Premier League

Finally, some bad news concerning another multi-club chase for a talented young player – Paris Saint-Germain’s Xavi Simons has been linked persistently with a move to the Premier League after impressing on loan at RB Leipzig, with Arsenal, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Manchester City all mentioned, but it doesn’t look like he’s so interested.

HITC claim that he’d actually prefer to return to Barcelona – he was a product of La Masia before he left to (very successfully) seek his fortune – were he to leave PSG permanently. The report reckons, however, that they are more likely to countenance a third consecutive season away on loan.

The 3AM Verdict: Simons is lavishly talented and while a loan move to Barcelona isn’t especially implausible, we have to seriously question whether they have the cash to make it happen after two hugely successful seasons at PSV Eindhoven and Leipzig. In any case, we don’t think PSG want to sell unless a massive offer comes in. This one will simmer a little throughout the summer, but it wouldn’t be a great shock if it doesn’t come to the boil at all.
