Manchester City are ready to make a shock loan move for a Premier League striker with just one goal to his name so far this season.

GiveMeSport have claimed the reigning Premier League champions are keen to add a striker to their squad during the January transfer window as they look to provide competition and backup to top goalscorer Erling Haaland.

Despite scoring 18 goals in just 23 appearances in all competitions this season, the Norway international has not quite hit his usual levels - although the same could be said of his team-mates after they embarked on a run of ‘form’ that will go down as the worst in Pep Guardiola’s career.

Action is to be taken in the January transfer window and the report has suggested City will make a somewhat surprise move for Brighton and Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson, who has just one Premier League goal to his name so far this season.

A loan bid is suggested after City moved on from previous claims Ferguson would be ‘too risky’ and it now appears a bid for the Republic of Ireland international could be on the agenda. A permanent deal seems highly unlikely, given that the Seagulls are said to value their asset at around £100m.

The 3AM Verdict: Despite his poor goal return so far this season, there is a definite talent in Ferguson and he still has plenty to offer Brighton. There have been several claims from within the Seagulls hierarchy stating they are determined to hold on to the young striker and that could force City to look elsewhere.

Red Devils set to be snubbed by Italy star

Manchester United’s desire to add a left-back to their squad has reportedly been dealt a blow by a Serie A defender.

As per Football Italia, newspaper TuttoSport has claimed the 28-times capped Italy international was the subject of interest from the Old Trafford club as they looked to strengthen their options on the left-hand side of Ruben Amorim’s defence. The former Sporting CP head coach has enjoyed a promising start to life with the Red Devils and there is an expectation his squad will be boosted when the January transfer window opens for business.

However, it seems unlikely Dimarco will be wearing the red shirt anytime soon after the report revealed the defender is set to be offered a new contract by the Serie A giants and is ready to accept what is put his way.

The 3AM Verdict: There is no doubt the Red Devils need a left-back to boost their squad and improve the options Amorim has inherited from Erik ten Hag. Dimarco would have been an ideal option but it now seems likely he will remain at the San Siro.

Former Spurs star makes claim over Postecoglou’s future

Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Kasey Keller has insisted Sunday’s home clash with Liverpool is not make or break for manager Ange Postecoglou.

The former Celtic manager has been increasing pressure in recent weeks after his side suffered defeats against the likes of Chelsea, Bournemouth and Ipswich Town in recent weeks. However, there was a positive for ‘Big Ange’ after Spurs romped to a big win at struggling Southampton that ended Russell Martin’s managerial reign with their hosts. However, former USA international Keller does not believe Spurs will dispense with their own manager if they are unable to pick up a positive result against the current Premier League leaders on Sunday.

He told SportsMole: "I wouldn't say it's make or break. I think you can see what Ange is looking to achieve at Tottenham, and with the 4-0 win over Man City when Spurs perform like that then there is optimism for the future."

The 3AM Verdict: There clearly is some pressure on Postecoglou, not that you can tell from his demeanour in recent press conferences and post-match interviews. The Aussie seems to have the backing of the Spurs board so Keller is probably correct in his observation.
