FPL injury news: Fernandes, Schär & Ederson among doubts for Gameweek 36

There are just three gameweeks left in the Fantasy Premier League season and with key doubles taking place next weekend, every little injury could have a massive impact on your team – so we’ve listened to all of the managers’ pre-match press conferences to bring you the latest injury updates on the most important assets in the FPL.

Bruno Fernandes, Eberechi Eze, Fabian Schär and Ederson are among the players with nasty-looking triangles next to their names on the transfer screen, and we’ve got updates on all of them and more for you.

Bruno Fernandes

The Portuguese midfielder is just about the only Manchester United man in form ahead of their game against Crystal Palace, but he’s a doubt for that match after picking up an unspecified knock. Ten Hag has been bullish about his chances of playing but stopped short of confirming that he expects him to feature. Fernandes has never missed a United match though injury before. Marcus Rashford is almost certainly out of action thanks to the injury he sustained against Coventry City.

Fabian Schär

Bad news for the many players who have the Swiss centre-half in their teams ahead of Newcastle’s double next week – he’s may be out for the rest of the season with the hamstring injury he picked up in the 5-1 win over Sheffield United last weekend. Eddie Howe has said that he “doubts” that he will be back before the end of the campaign - but Schär himself has told the Swiss media that “I full expect to still play for Newcastle this season.”

Kieran Trippier, one of the obvious replacements, isn’t an option this week either, with Howe confirming that he won’t be back in training until next week. He might return in time for the big double, at least. Nick Pope is among the players who are back in training, however, which makes Martin Dúbravka a less appealing option now.

Ederson

The Manchester City goalkeeper was taken off at half-time against Nottingham Forest last week but Pep Guardiola told reporters that he was back in training and that it “looked worse than it is.” He should start, and he also confirmed that Erling Haaland are Phil Foden are both fit and ready to play.

Eberechi Eze

The Crystal Palace attacking midfielder missed out against Fulham last week with a knee injury – but manager Oliver Glasner only described him as “questionable” for that game, which implies that he should be fit to face Manchester United barring setbacks.

Rayan Aït-Nouri

The Wolves left-back became a popular pick for the recent double gameweek but may face a late fitness test before Gary O’Neil selects him against Manchester City, according to reports earlier this week - although the Algerian wasn’t mentioned as a doubt in the manager’s press conference. Chances are that he should be deep on your bench anyway, but it look like he’ll play at least some part - and also some chance that Pedro Neto plays. The Portuguese winger could be back ahead of schedule after returning to training this week.

Virgil van Dijk

The Liverpool defender won’t be in so many teams given that Liverpool don’t double up again this season, but he’s still a popular asset so it’s worth noting that he’s missed training this week with a knock. Jürgen Klopp did, however, say that he should be back today, so he’s still likely to play against Tottenham Hotspur. Conor Bradley has returned to training, but Diogo Jota remains absent.

Jan Paul van Hecke

A slightly odd one here – the budget differential defender picked up a hamstring injury ahead of last weekend’s match against Bournemouth and reports in the Dutch press suggested his season was over. FPL, however, lists him as having a 75% chance of playing. That seems to be at odds with the general consensus, and Roberto de Zerbi said the same players that missed last week’s match would be absent again, although he didn’t mention Van Hecke by name.
