Martinez, Mainoo and Shaw: Manchester United injury list and return dates ahead of Como clash
The latest Man United injury update and potential return dates ahead of their Champions League meeting with Como
Manchester United’s tricky start to the 2026/27 season continued last weekend, as Michael Carrick’s side were held to a 1-1 draw away to their rivals Leeds United. The Red Devils took the lead via Bryan Mbeumo in the first half, but England international Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the equaliser midway through the second.

The result leaves Man United 13th in the Premier League after seven matches, with just seven points picked up since the season began. The pressure is starting to grow on Carrick as the sluggish form continues, and he’ll be eager for his side to bounce back in midweek when they travel to take on Como in their famously scenic surroundings on Wednesday evening.
Ahead of United’s clash against the Serie A side, Carrick has a number of injury concerns to deal with. His ranks will remain significantly depleted for the trip to Como, with as many as eight members of his first team squad a doubt for the game. This is the latest Manchester United injury news update and potential return dates ahead of kick-off.
When will Sesko be back from injury?

United striker Benjamin Sesko won’t be back to face Como, and may well have to wait until late November to make his return from a troublesome shin injury. He could be targeting a comeback against Liverpool on November 22nd. It’s a similar story for versatile wide-man Patrick Dorgu, who suffered a thigh injury during the extended international break.
Defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte may have to wait as long as April to play for the club again, after he suffered a brutal knee injury during Uruguay’s 2026 World Cup campaign. The 25-year-old had surgery on the ligament injury back in July, and is now undergoing an extensive period of rehabilitation as he targets a come back before the end of the season.
Luke Shaw made a welcome return for the Red Devils against Spurs earlier this month, and was involved in a scuffle that saw opposition player Rodrigo Bentancur sent off in the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. However, Shaw then missed the following two matches with an unspecified knock, and remains a doubt to play Como on Wednesday.
Will Martinez play against Como?

Lisandro Martinez was withdrawn from action at half-time against Leeds, after suffering a thigh injury. A return against Como looks to be unlikely, and a nervous wait will now follow as United look to get a prognosis on their star defender’s fitness. He already came into the new season with an injury problem, having picked up a hamstring injury suffered during the World Cup final.
Key midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is another major doubt to feature against Como. He played the full ninety minutes against Spurs earlier this month but, like Shaw, was also ruled out of both the trip to Atletico Madrid and Elland Road. Mainoo has played just once since 20th September, after missing the international break with England through injury.
It looks to be touch and go when it comes to promising young defender Ayden Heaven. The England U20 international couldn’t play against Leeds due to illness and hasn’t trained subsequently - he could now well miss out on the trip to northern Italy. Key forward Marcus Rashford has also not been spotted in training ahead of the clash against Como.
