Liverpool could join box office £100m transfer showdown as Newcastle look to win wonderkid race with Man Utd
The latest Premier League transfer news with updates on Liverpool, Newcastle United, Chelsea and more
We’re gearing up for another blockbuster weekend of Premier League action, with all twenty teams in action over the course of a stacked Gameweek 7 line-up. Everton and Chelsea get things underway in the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday afternoon, before Newcastle United and Aston Villa round the day’s action off in the evening fixture.

On Sunday, rivals will go head-to-head as Brighton and Hove Albion take on Crystal Palace, while Leeds United renew their historic bad blood with Manchester United in what should be a highly entertaining affair at Elland Road. Things will be drawn to a close on Monday evening, when Spurs look to win their first league game of the season at home to Coventry City.
Today’s rumours round-up starts off in La Liga, where ex-Manchester United star Jadon Sancho could be heading. The free agent has been on the hunt for a new club since leaving the Red Devils at the end of last season, and Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo now report that top tier side Getafe could sign him.
The deal is described as being highly complex, largely down to the player’s wage requirements. The club have also just signed veteran defender Dani Carvajal, and are also thought to be lining up a third free agent move for their former star midfielder Dani Parejo. Sancho’s former club Borussia Dortmund are also thought to be keen on re-signing their former gem.
The 3AM Verdict: At 26-years-old, Jadon Sancho’s career is far from over, but he needs to sort things out and find a new club, even if that means sacrificing some of his pay packet. His potential was huge in his early years, and he could still go on to have a fine career. A move away from England where he can rebuild away from the media spotlight makes a great deal of sense, too.
Liverpool ready to challenge Chelsea for Scott

Meanwhile, the race to sign Bournemouth’s Alex Scott looks to be heating up. This follows reports that the Cherries could be willing to sell in January, amid keen interest from Chelsea. Team Talk now say that Liverpool “can’t be discounted” in the race to sign the newly minted England international, and that their manager Andoni Iraola has personally given his blessing to a potential purchase.
The Cherries’ stance could change, however, if the club find themselves looking likely to be embroiled in a relegation battle come the new year. It’s claimed that Scott’s destination is likely to come down to which club can match their asking price - likely to be close to £100m - and which club the player wishes to join in the new year.
The 3AM Verdict: Bournemouth’s u-turn on their January selling stance is notable - the player’s representatives must have made it fairly clear that their client has no future at the club. Liverpool could have a big Alexis Mac Allister-shaped hole to fill in the summer, but we fancy Chelsea might just nip in and snatch Scott come January, with the Enzo Fernandez millions burning a hole in their back pocket.
Newcastle United and Man Utd set for wonderkid war

We’ll round things off at St. James’ Park, where Newcastle United are rumoured to be entering somewhat of a transfer battle with Manchester United. That’s according to reports from Portuguese outlet O Jogo, via Sport Witness, which suggests both clubs have taken a shine to Benfica’s teenage full-back Daniel Banjaqui.
It claimed that the Red Devils “could ruin” Newcastle’s plans, and look to beat them to seal the deal. Both clubs are believed to be ahead of Barcelona and Inter in the race to sign the Portugal U18 international, who is said to be valued at around £42m by his club. The Magpies already hold a positive relationship with Benfica, having bought Amar Dedic from them over the summer.
The 3AM Verdict: Manchester United could really do with some cover at right-back, but to spend over £40m on a teenager to provide it would be rash to say the least. It’s the same story for Newcastle, although it’s fair to say that the player does fit their new ethos of signing promising young talent. We just think the money is too high for either club to do the deal right now.
