Rivals ‘reluctant’ to enter talks with Newcastle

Crystal Palace are reportedly ‘reluctant’ to entertain conversations with Newcastle United over their ongoing interest in Marc Guehi. During the summer, multiple clubs were eager to sign the centre-back but his price tag proved tricky to meet.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown has told Football Insider that Newcastle could return to the table for Guehi in January. However, it’s unlikely the Eagles will want to settle for even less than what was offered to them during the summer.

“I don’t think people are going to come in at that same £70m price. Newcastle could come back in for him, but would the chairman at Crystal Palace bite the bullet and take less from them than they offered in the first place?

“I’ve heard they were a bit frustrated about the way that deal went with low-ball offers and whatnot. It would certainly come as a blow for Palace if they accepted a lower bid just six months later. They’ll definitely be reluctant to have those conversations.

“I think that deal would be difficult for Newcastle at this stage because things didn’t exactly go swimmingly last time. Neither side was totally happy with the way it went.“

The 3AM Verdict: Palace certainly won’t want to sell themselves short when it comes to Guehi but if their tough run of form continues, they may have no choice. Guehi has risen rapidly into the spotlight and after interest from Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle, he will be well aware that there is the opportunity for him to challenge in Europe and other competitions. If Guehi becomes increasingly unhappy where he is, it will only spell more troubled waters for the club as they battle this difficult start to the season.

Liverpool a ‘serious option’ for £50m forward

Liverpool are reportedly a ‘serious option’ for the next destination of Omar Marmoush, who has been turning heads with his performances for Eintracht Frankfurt. According to Florian Plettenberg, the interest is ‘real’ and there has already been contact between the player and Liverpool.

Marmoush reportedly ‘dreams’ of a move to the Premier League and would ‘immediately agree’ to join the Reds, should the opportunity present itself. Frankfurt are reportedly demanding between €50-60 million (£42-50m) before they consider letting their star forward leave.

The 3AM Verdict: Marmoush is in serious form right now, with 10 goals and seven assists in 11 appearances across all competitions so far this season. Last campaign, he notched 17 goals and six assists, so he’s in very good stead to smash last season’s numbers. As things stand, the Reds have a good depth to their attack, with Diogo Jota, Darwin Núñez and Cody Gakpo all strong in the No.9. However, should one or more of the trio move on, Liverpool will need a tried and tested back up. Alternatively, Marmoush has played as a right-winger, so he could come in as back-up or to replace Mohamed Salah, depending on his confidence in that position.
