Manchester City have all but agreed a deal to sign Cardiff City sensation Timeo Whisker, according to The Athletic. Several Premier League clubs were thought to have been monitoring the 15-year-old.

But City are set to bolster their already star-studded academy ranks with another promising youngster. They will reportedly stump up around £250,000 to land the French-born star.

The 3AM verdict: A bold move for a young player to join Man City - where only a fraction of players make the cut. The trade-off between being coached in an elite environment and giving yourself the opportunity for first-team football is a tough balancing act.

Even if Whisker did not succeed, he can be buoyed by the conveyor belt of talent Man City have moved on who never stood a chance of breaking into Pep Guardiola’s side. Cole Palmer and Douglas Luiz - two contenders for the Team of the Year - barely featured before achieving superstardom elsewhere.

Huge loss on Sancho

Manchester United are prepared to take a £38million hit on Jadon Sancho this summer. That is according to Metro, who claim the Red Devils are prepared to offload the winger back to Borussia Dortmund permanently.

Sancho was supposed to spearhead a fresh wave at Old Trafford following his £73million move in 2021. But poor performances and a string of discipline issues have resulted in him being made persona non grata by Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman banished him from the United ranks last year before loaning him back to Dortmund in January. A bid of around £35million is likely to be accepted for the 23-year-old, who bagged in midweek as the Bundesliga outfit progressed to the Champions League quarter-finals.

The 3AM verdict:

Will Man United fans care? Sancho’s attitude has stunk since the moment he walked through the door. Just as Sir Alex Ferguson was proven right about Paul Pogba, Guardiola, as it stands, has been justified in his decision to let Sancho leave as an academy product. What was supposed to be one of the most talented English players of his generation is not even in the discussion for Euro 2024. That tells you everything you need to know.

Gunners eye £89m goal machine

Portuguese outlet O Jogo claim Arsenal are prepared to stump up £89million for Viktor Gyokeres. That is how much it would cost to release the Sweden international from his Sporting Lisbon contract.

Gyokeres only arrived in Lisbon last summer, arriving from Coventry City for around £25million. He has continued his goalscoring streak on the continent - netting 33 times across all competitions this season. It is no secret that Mikel Arteta wants a striker and reports in Portugal name Gyokeres as his man. The 25-year-old can play out wide as well as an out-and-out striker.

The 3AM verdict: Scoring in the Championship and for Sporting Lisbon is one thing doing it as an Arsenal player, however…In fairness, he cannot be judged until he pulls on that red shirt but £89million is a lot to pay for a striker who remains unproven at the elite level. This judgement could be made to look foolish in a year’s time.
