Tottenham plot bold £60m raid for West Ham star as Arsenal target two top class new signings

Rounding up the latest Premier League transfer rumours - with news from Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham and Sunderland.

Normally, June is the relatively quiet part of the transfer window – but this year, the moves and news have been coming thick and fast, and to help you keep track of the biggest stories, we’re back with our latest round-up of the juiciest new Premier League transfer rumours, starting with some news for Arsenal fans.

Over the past 24 hours, different sources have linked the Gunners with not but two new defensive signings – and that’s not even including Jorrel Hato, a long-standing target. First up, Fabrizio Romano claims that they are in “active talks” to sign Valencia’s 20-year-old centre-back Cristhian Mosquera, who is apparently among their “top targets” and whose forename is misspelled so often that even Romano messed it up.

Previous stories connecting Mosquera with Inter Milan and others had suggested that he was valued at around €20m (£17m), although Romano doesn’t comment on the finances involved. Whether they will face competition from other supposed suitors remains to be seen.

Elsewhere, TBR Football allege that Arsenal are “keen” on a player who’s at Inter Milan right now – 26-year-old Brazil international Carlos Augusto, who can play on the left or in the middle. Apparently, new sporting director Andrea Berta is a fan of a player who could set a buyer back €30m (£25m).

The 3AM Verdict: Both stories are plausible enough and suggest between them that Jakub Kiwior may be gently ushered out of the door at the Emirates later this summer. We think the Mosquera link is more likely to pan out, given the price point for a player who would likely start as a back-up, and given that Hato seems to be the preference if Arsenal want to buy a new left-sided defender.

Spurs in talks with West Ham over discounted £60m deal

We’ll stick around North London for our second story of this morning’s round-up, which comes courtesy of GiveMeSport – they build on a previous story which claimed that Spurs “have held talks” with cross-capital rivals West Ham United over a move for Ghanaian winger Mohammed Kudus.

Kudus has a reported £85m release clause in his contract but Spurs believe that they can drag that price down and it’s “believed” that the Hammers will consider bids in the £60m region.

Interest in Kudus comes now that it seems likely that Bryan Mbeumo will turn Spurs down and head to Manchester United instead. They have also looked at Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, supposedly, but a £70m asking price sent them packing pretty quickly. Elsewhere, Spurs are also reported to have resumed talks with free agent Canada striker Jonathan David.

The 3AM Verdict: We’re slightly sceptical on this one, if only because the lion’s share of the budget for attacking reinforcements seems set to be spent on Eberchi Eze, who may well also play on the left wing. Signing both Eze and Kudus (and Mathys Tel, who is already sorted) doesn’t seem to make much sense on paper. This is Spurs, mind you. Common sense doesn’t always enter into with their transfer dealings…

Sunderland get stiff competition for Serie A star

Sunderland’s attempts to snap up AS Roma full-back Angeliño have run into a bit of a problem, according to Sport Witness (via Corriere dello Sport), with the Spaniard’s agent apparently drumming up interest from other teams – including Atlético Madrid.

Sunderland had been keen to take advantage of Roma’s need to have a bit of a clear-out, but with Atléti casting around for a new left-back, they could well take Angeliño’s agents up on the chance to sign the former Manchester City man.

Complicating matters even further is the fact that two Saudi Arabian sides, Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr, are also “ready to start negotiations”, and their wage budget can be politely said to exceed Sunderland’s by a factor of quite a lot. No word on the exact price that any purchasing team would pay, but with Roma apparently keen to do a deal soon, he could be available for “a bargain price.”

The 3AM Verdict: While Angeliño’s agent may be doing his best to find alternatives to Sunderland, there’s nothing here with suggests that Atlético Madrid are actually interested - just that they’ve been offered him. The bigger problem may be the volume at which Saudi money speaks, and that’s louder than anyone you’ll hear with a Mackem accent.
