The Premier League players who could still seal Turkey transfers this week - including Chelsea & Man Utd stars

Six Premier League players could be on their way to Turkey this week - from Chelsea and Spurs exiles to Manchester United and Arsenal players.

The Premier League transfer window may have closed – sorry, ‘slammed shut’ – but that doesn’t mean that top-flight clubs can put the fax machine back in the broom cupboard just yet. Several countries are still doing business, and there could yet be several deals involving Turkish teams before the Süper Lig window closes on Friday 13 September.

The Turkish league has already made a big splash in recent weeks by hoovering up players whose moves didn’t get through before other European leagues had to close up shop, most notably when Galataşaray completed the stunning signing of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen on a year-long loan deal. There could yet be more to come, however, and here are six Premier League players linked with a move to Turkey in the next few days:

Ben Chilwell

The Chelsea left-back has been exiled from Enzo Maresca’s first-team squad but the Blues have struggled to shift him, with talks regarding a move to Manchester United breaking down quickly while few other takers have emerged for the often-injured England international.

The Mirror reported that Chelsea contacted four Turkish clubs – Galataşaray, Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe and Istanbul Başakşehir – but weren’t able to persuade anyone to take on his reported £200,000 per week contract. Apparently none of the clubs in questions “showed any appetite” for a deal, but José Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe may still be on the hunt for a left-back after selling Ferdi Kadioğlu to Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea may be forced to settle for a bad deal to get Chilwell off the books.

Sergio Reguilón

Chilwell isn’t the only left-back who isn’t wanted by his London club – Tottenham Hotspur want rid of Spanish defender Reguilón and hope to find a buyer before it’s too late.

According to The Sunday People, the 27-year-old has been given an ultimatum demanding that he find a club in Turkey, although there doesn’t seem to be a specific link to any given club. Given his position, Fenerbahçe may be the most likely destination again and he would likely prove a cheaper option than Chilwell for any team in the market for a left-back.

Kieran Trippier

Speaking of full-backs, veteran Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier is another player heavily linked with a switch to the far side of the Bosphorous – but the move may be dead, with Sky Sports News claiming on Tuesday that the four clubs who had been in contact about a loan move had “given up”.

As well as Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe and Istanbul Başakşehir, Newcastle were also in talks with Eyüpspor, a newly-promoted side who already have Jonjo Shelvey on their books, but it seems that the player was not convinced that his best interests would be served by leaving St. James’ Park. It remains to be seen whether anything will change before Friday.

Antony & Casemiro

A prospective double deal for Manchester United here, although at least one side of it could be dead in the water already. United have been trying to ship their Brazilian pair all summer but have failed thus far and Turkey may be their only way out – but recent reports suggest that Galataşaray have failed in their bid to take former Real Madrid man Casemiro on loan.

That leaves struggling winger Antony on the market, and The Daily Mail are among the outlets claiming he is close to a loan move to Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe after playing just one minute of Premier League football so far this season. The financial details may still prove tricky to sort out, however, so it’s far from a done deal.

Jorginho

The reason many media reports suggest tthe Casemiro bid has fallen through is that we’re now hearing that Galataşaray may have turned their attention to Arsenal midfielder Jorginho, who has fallen down the pecking order behind Thomas Partey and Mikel Merino at the Emirates.

The Sun are among the newspaper suggesting that the Istanbul-based giants could be preparing a bid for the Italian midfielder with Casemiro no longer an option. The report does claim that Arsenal intend to “resist” any bids, but it’s possible the player might attempt to push the move through if he doesn’t see many minutes in his future in north London.
