The Colombian attacker has been linked with a move to France in recent days

It is a summer of looming uncertainty for Liverpool. With Jurgen Klopp rapidly approaching an emotional farewell at Anfield, and with several players facing speculative futures at the club, the coming weeks and months could bring a fair amount of tumult to the red half of Merseyside.

The Liverpool side who contest that final 180 minutes of Klopp’s tenure may look notably different from the one that lines up on the opening weekend of the 2024/25 campaign, and in amongst the list of names with question marks scribbled beside them is that of Luis Diaz. The Colombian winger has emerged as a target for French giants Paris Saint-Germain, who themselves are preparing for big changes in the aftermath of Kylian Mbappe’s last appearance for the club.

It is understood that PSG are eyeing an experienced talent to bolster their frontline this summer, and Diaz has been earmarked as one of several prospective signings amid a period of anticipated flux. But the player himself doesn’t seem to harbour any intentions of leaving Liverpool in the immediate future.

Speaking in April after being awarded the Reds’ player of the month award, Diaz said: "I have grown a lot. From the beginning of my career to today, I feel that with the passage of days, of years, living each experience in each different team, coming to this great club that is Liverpool, leaves you with a lot of learnings.

“You learn more and more to be a professional, to be a better person, to be a good teammate and a good guy. The truth is that I am very happy to be here. Great years are coming for the club, I have no doubt about that. Personally, I will always try to do my best, always try to give 100 per cent, to always stand out on the field, which is what I came [here] to do. I’m always grateful to God for every opportunity.”

Certainly not the words of a talent itching to get away, and from Liverpool’s perspective, you can’t imagine there is any great desire to sell either. So far this season, Diaz has contributed 13 goals and five assists across all competitions, and while his form has arguably been patchier than usual, there is no denying that on his day he is a proven match winner and a vital presence out on the left flank.

Given that Diaz is under contract until 2027, there is no mounting pressure to cash in on him any time soon either. Instead, if the player is content and Liverpool are pleased enough with his work to keep him around, then there is no reason to believe that PSG’s interest will ever become more than a fleeting fancy.

Nothing is ever concrete, of course, and things can change swiftly, but at the time of writing, the expectation remains that Diaz will still be a Liverpool player come the end of the summer. And if you don’t believe us, take it from the man himself.
