We begin Tuesday’s Premier League transfer rumour roundup with news of Manchester United and their ongoing pursuit of Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt. The Red Devils have already signed one central defender this summer, swooping to bring in teenage star Leny Yoro last week. But Erik ten Hag is seemingly not done yet, and it is understood that transfer chiefs at Old Trafford are intent on luring the manager’s compatriot to England too.

To that end, Christian Falk reports that United have opened negotiations with a low ball offer of around £25.5 million for De Ligt. Unsurprisingly, Bayern have rejected that bid, and are said to be holding out for a figure closer to £42 million for the 24-year-old. Whether they will receive that full amount, or whether their need to sell players this summer will ultimately lead to some kind of compromise, remains to be seen.

The 3AM Verdict: While it makes sense for United to retain an interest in De Ligt despite having signed Yoro, surely they must have known that Bayern would not entertain such a low offer. Nevertheless, it is a good sign that talks are underway, and hopefully some kind of agreement can be reached from here. One to watch, for sure.

Liverpool eye Lunin

Elsewhere, Liverpool could be in the market to sign Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin this summer, according to Monday’s edition of Sport. The Ukrainian is out of contract in the Spanish capital, and could, therefore, be offloaded in the coming weeks to prevent him leaving on a free transfer in 12 months’ time.

Real are expected to £25.3 million for the stopper, and while several Premier League clubs have been in contact for his services, it is suggested that Liverpool ‘could be the solution’ for the 25-year-old.

The 3AM Verdict: This is all well and good, but Liverpool don’t exactly need a new £25 million goalkeeper. Assuming Alisson Becker stays at Anfield this summer, then Lunin would be signed as cover, and even then, only if Caoimhin Kelleher were to depart. It could happen, of course, but you suspect that Arne Slot will have other recruitment priorities much higher on his agenda.

Palace have Sarr bid rejected

And finally, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Crystal Palace have had a bid rejected for Marseille forward Ismaïla Sarr. The Senegalese winger previously played in the Premier League with Watford, and is said to be keen on the idea of a return to the English top flight. Romano goes on to suggest that negotiations between Palace and their French counterparts are still ongoing, but that an improved bid will have to be tabled if a deal is to be struck.

The 3AM Verdict: This could be good business for Palace. Sarr showed plenty of promise during his time in England, and has only developed as a player since moving on from Watford. While there are no clear indications just yet on his exact price tag, if an affordable agreement can be reached, then there is no reason to suggest that it couldn’t be a savvy swoop from Oliver Glasner’s side.
