Man United predicted line-up vs Roma: three key changes made as Carrick sweats over Amad and Rashford fitness

The latest Manchester United team news, injury updates and predicted XI for their Champions League clash with Roma.

When Manchester United welcome Roma to Old Trafford on Tuesday evening, they will be hoping to avoid ending a tenth successive game without a win for the first time since 1984 and for a victory which would get their Champions League campaign back on track – but injury issues could make the task rather more challenging.

While Kobbie Mainoo returned to the squad in time for Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea, both Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford missed out and winger Amad Diallo had to be substituted due to an apparent knock during the game. All told, under-fire manager Michael Carrick may be forced to make do without as many as six first-team players.

With kick-off fast approaching, we’ve collected all of the latest Manchester United team news and injury updates below, along with our prediction for Carrick’s likely starting line-up.

Will Marcus Rashford play against Roma?

Two key players remain major doubts ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League fixture against Roma – Marcus Rashford, who has been struggling with a hip injury, and Luke Shaw, who is dealing with an undisclosed muscular problem.

Rashford has been left out of the matchday squad for the last three matches, but was spotted in training at Carrington this week and appears to be close to making a comeback. The club has yet to provide any confirmation as to whether he will be ready to go by Tuesday evening, however.

Shaw, meanwhile, has been absent since the 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in October and the nature of the injury he has suffered has not been revealed. Carrick has said previously that he would be out for “a little bit longer” that Mainoo was, and with the midfielder coming off the bench to make his own comeback against Chelsea there is hope that Shaw will be back soon.

The left-back has not, however, been seen in training as yet and initial indications are that he is unlikely to make the Roma match. The forthcoming Premier League fixture against Aston Villa may be a more realistic target.

Amad Diallo added to Manchester United injury list

Manchester United will also be left to sweat on the fitness of winger Amad Diallo, who appeared to pick up a muscular injury against Chelsea and was substituted with a little under 15 minutes of regular time remaining.

Carrick didn’t address Amad’s condition during his post-match press conference, leaving the question of the Ivorian’s availability up in the air. No information about the nature or extent of the injury have been made public at the time of writing, and as such he must be treated as a doubt.

The other United player who was compelled to leave the field on Saturday – defender Lisandro Martínez, who received a second yellow card for a foul which also resulted in a penalty – will be available, however, as his automatic one-game suspension applies only to domestic matches. He will miss the coming game against Aston Villa instead.

Three long-term injury victims will be unavailable on Tuesday evening, however: Benjamin Šeško (shin) is expected to be out until January, Patrick Dorgu (hamstring) is unlikely to play until after the November international break, and Manuel Ugarte (ACL) won’t have a chance to play until the end of the season.

Manchester United predicted XI vs. Roma (4-2-3-1): Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Heaven, Yoro; Mainoo, Baleba; Mount, Fernandes, Mbeumo; Cunha.
