The latest Manchester United injury news and return dates ahead of Rúben Amorim’s first match in charge.

New manager Rúben Amorim will take charge of his first Manchester United match this weekend when the Red Devils make the trip to Portman Road to take on newly-promoted Ipswich Town – but Amorim may have to make do without several injured players.

No fewer than seven players are doubts ahead of Sunday’s game with Victor Lindelöf recently added to the list of potential absentees after he picked up another injury while on international duty with Sweden.

With key players like Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martínez also at risk of missing minutes, we’ve brought together all of the latest injury news below along with expected return dates when available.

Lisandro Martínez

The Argentine defender will have given United fans a fright when he withdrew from international duty with an apparent back problem. National team manager Lionel Scaloni told the press that Martínez was enduring pain after taking a blow to the back, which worsened after joining the squad. He was sent home following an assessment, but it is not believed that there is any lasting damage. Martínez is likely to play this Sunday.

Kobbie Mainoo

A hamstring injury has sidelined the young midfielder since October, but after more than a month out of action Mainoo was spotted back in training at Carrington on Monday, signalling that he may well be available for Amorim’s first match in charge. The medical team will likely take a cautious approach with the England international, however, so there is some chance that the Ipswich game comes too soon for him.

Leny Yoro

The £52m summer signing has yet to make his competitive debut thanks to a broke metatarsal sustained in pre-season, but had been earmarked for a return after the November international break – and he has also been back in first-team training this week, which raises the prospect of an imminent debut. No further updates have been provided, however, so his participation this weekend remains highly doubtful.

Luke Shaw

Repeated setbacks have stalled Shaw’s return from injury and he hasn’t played a competitive game in red since February – but he has been back in light training as he works towards a return. Shaw is unlikely to feature this weekend but may turn out for the Under-21 side when they play next Friday as he builds up fitness.

Victor Lindelöf

The Swedish centre-half is another player to have endured a frustrating run of injuries recently, and his luck hasn’t turned yet – having only just returned from one injury, he was forced from the field while playing against Slovakia in the Nations League over the weekend. International team-mate Emil Holm described Lindelöf as “very down in the dressing room” after the game, but no official prognosis or time frame has been revealed as yet.

Harry Maguire

Maguire has been missing for around a month thanks to a muscular injury and while he had initially been earmarked for an early-mid November return, he is still not back in full team training. Prior to leaving the club, former assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy told the media that he was still going through the rehabilitation process, but there have been no updates since then. If there have been no significant setbacks then he should return by the end of the month, however.

Tyrell Malacia

It’s been nearly 18 months since the Dutch wing-back last played but he is finally edging closer to a long-awaited return from an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Malacia started the Under-21s’ last match against Huddersfield Town in the EFL Trophy and was pictured in the main group for Amorim’s first training session on Monday. While the club will understandably be careful about restoring him to the first-team, he is now effectively available to play.
